Cave in high res?

Post by shmupsrocks »

Are the last gen of Cave games on the CV1000D hardware still in 240p land or more like 480p? (Deathsmiles Mega Black Label, DoDonPachi DaiFukkatsu, Akai Katana, DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou)

The PCBs are 15khz, the console ports (if applicable, like akai katana) got a bump up by re-rendering the foreground CG elements and scaling up the backgrounds.
When you ruin some enemy, add to score points.

Does 15kHz always mean 240p?

15khz means at most 250-300 lines at 50-60hz.

It always means lowres in resolutions around 240p yes

Not really. 480i is 15khz. In fact, 240p is just a variant of 480i where you redraw over the same line to create two separate frames, instead of interlacing them into one higher resolution frame. :)

All of Cave's CV1000 games are 240p though, but they did have that weird off-shoot with DeathSmiles 2.
