Hey my dudes! Thanks so much for all the positive feedback, I really appreciate it. I'm glad to hear you guys found the article interesting. I'll have to think about following up with a similar article in the future.

Read this last night. Great work Mark.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Fascinating stuff, I'd love to hear more about the Japanese scene but I know that it's notoriously closed. I recall on an STGW interview Gus talking about a Japanese player going ballistic about some routes being made public. It does seem fiercely prescribed and restrictive. I guess that's also part of the allure. Anyway, great work, man. Deserves to be shared far and wide.

Yeah I think you are right about how hard it is to get more info about the Japanese shmup scene. I mention it a bit in the article, but I've tried to do an article like this for a very long time, but just couldn't get it to happen with any Japanese players before Arasaka, he's the only one that I'm aware of that's interested in interacting with the western scene as actively as doing an interview and stuff. Very likely most of my follow up content will come through him, though there is a Japanese player I really want to try and make contact with called Devil Missionary. He has crazy DDP and DFK scores.Stanshall wrote:Fascinating stuff, I'd love to hear more about the Japanese scene but I know that it's notoriously closed.
