New Shmup SubReddit r/shmupSTG

Hey Everyone,

So in the wake of the troubles the community has been having with r/shmups, I have decided to create a new subreddit for the community r/shmupSTG. The purpose of this subreddit is to be an open place where people can feel comfortable posting about shmup content without too much moderator intervention. I do recognize that r/danmaku exists and I am a part of that subreddit, but I am worried that the name of that reddit might be too specialized for further growth for new people looking to find shmup content. If Temporary1990 wants to hop over and be a moderator on r/shmupSTG though, I'd be cool with that.

I do recognize that this is the shmups forum, and if you guys don't care about reddit that's fine. I just think reddit is a great place to draw new people into the community through, so having some kind of positive presence on there would likely be beneficial for everyone.

Additionally, another reason why I wanted to create shmupSTG was to have a place where we could have scoring competitions without interference. So even if r/shmups remains the go to for promotion and stuff like that, I still encourage everyone to check into shmupSTG for the monthly (or so) scoring competitions. Another future goal of mine is to have the subreddit be a place you can go to find more game play oriented content, rather than just discussions about new releases and stuff like that. So to kick things off I am organizing a March ZeroRanger Team scoring competition, it should be a bunch of fun if people decide to participate.

I have no idea if this will succeed ultimately, but I thought it would be worth while to at least give it a try.

Ya that's probably true, but maybe if we can get both to show up when you search for "shmups" on reddit, people will be inclined to take a look at both at least.

We've taken some steps to increase visibility. https://www.reddit.com/r/SHOOTEMUPS now has a message redirecting people to Mark's sub. It's not much but it's a start.

Nothing. Reddit is just the hip place to be, I guess. Even though it's full of idiots.

I believe r/shmups doesnt allow mame/prher emulator discussions.
