Aleste is coming back?!

Post by xxx1993 »

Next year, I hear that Aleste is celebrating its 30th anniversary, so a new game soon?

It was mentioned in the ESP Ra.de ShotTriggers thread, but yeah, M2 is making a new one.

I was just thinking that. Last week I bought Thunder Force IV remaster on Switch, I was pretty impressed with everything they did. I just wish they'd bring the "M2 Shot Triggers" series to Switch or Steam. But this article from a quick internet search doesn't leave me too optimistic...

Honestly, I'm hoping to see Ellinor Waizen return. And I want the series to go back to its sci-fi themes.

I'm only familiar with Robo Aleste, MUSHA and Space Megaforce. What happened? What do you mean?
I was under the impression they were all based on ancient Japanese pseudo history mixed with Sci-fi.

Please don't tell me they are somehow about pre-teen school-girls now.

Apparently Ellinor is the pilot in Aleste 2, Musha, and GG Aleste.

I think xxx1993 is able to make anything about pre-teen high school girls.

Well, of all the other games, Robo Aleste ditched the sci-fi elements and gave it a more steampunk vibe, setting it in Feudal Japan. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, though.

I'm down for a new Aleste game, regardless of which direction they take it. Unless it's eroge. No thank you.

I doubt they'll make an eroge out of Aleste. Though if anything, I think I want Ellinor's appearance in the new Aleste game (if she is the protagonist again) to be similar to her Aleste 2 appearance.

It was kind of hard to make out with the stream quality, but they did show off a small amount of footage from the game.
Unfortunately the stream archive is behind Niconico paywall and I can't find it anywhere else. There's a few screens about though:

Meh, not a fan of the ugly 3d from those screens... but it seems like it has parallax, so I guess there's that.

Top-down buildings look extremely reminiscent of Soukyugurentai to me. Nothing fugly about that in my book.

The graphics make it look like scaled sprites in the buildings and those spider robot things. What system is this running on, Switch?

Yep, looks like scaled sprites rather than actual 3D to me.

Reminds me of Soukyugurentai, which makes some sense if Yuichi Toyama is involved.

I'd hoped M2 would tackle Souky at some point, but this is fine too I guess.

I can take something that looks like this, especially with M2 working on it. It's not fugly at all... I'd like to see it in motion.
Sure am trusting M2 with this.

Should M2 go for Souky later on, I'll import the retail disc.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I do miss Soukyugurentai, actually. Easily one of the best shmups on the Sega Saturn if you ask me.

Oh my God, is this secretly Aleste X? I'm not sure what would excite me more: M2 attempting to make Aleste X themselves (and it being a very good game as a result), or them somehow coming across an Aleste X prototype and attempting to complete it.

It also looks like Zanac Neo, of course. There's a line of thought that Zanac Neo came from the older Aleste X project.
