Hope the game includes the rest of the claymore songs on its soundtrack. Tsukumo ftw!

I watched the trailer for this on Steam last night. Looks hectic! But it also looks pretty good, and I thought the music was pretty tight.

Thanks for the kind words. We won't disappoint!
Hope the game includes the rest of the claymore songs on its soundtrack.
The other songs he's done are original so far (as far as I know, I didn't catch that Over Take was an old song until after I had edited the trailer a couple months ago).

Might be a bit too bullet hell for me but I'll still pick it up on Switch to support the shmup scene.

Can someone please release a 2d Raiden game!!

Really looking forward to this. I'll buy it on Steam & most likely PS4. One of the levels reminds me of Last Resort's first stage, which is a big plus.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

This game looks really neat. Is the plan digital only for now?

Thanks! Other than the physical EXA PCB (more details on that later), we don't have anything to announce at this time but are definitely looking into it.

I seriously hope the final boss theme is "The Justice Ray Part 6", because "The Last Howling" from Gunhound EX was kind of a letdown compared to the first three Justice Ray songs.

I'd definitely pick up a physical Switch copy.

I'm more curious how did a western studio was able to get a hold of Hyakutarou for this project. Also hoping for the best in gameplay. Trailer looks good and it could be fun for a shooting game.

Same way everyone else does, just ask!
We showed him a bunch of footage and he was SUPER into it.

Played it for the second/third time at TGS 2018: good fun.
Music is definitely in tune with the game's Thunderforce-inspired roots.
Good to see the Hyakutaro Tsukumo hook-up went well; he seemed to be really excited about working on the game.

It reminded me of my favourite Thunder Force track (after Electric Mind maybe):

I'm liking what I am seeing. Fast gameplay with lots of nods to classic '90s horizontal shooters.

It's easier to parse when you get your hands on it.
You can also dim or just uppin' turn the backgrounds off if you need too, much to the determent of our poor artist.

Since this thread's got a lot more interest then the actual dev thread I'm gonna plop my shill right down here.

A new demo is coming to steam this coming Friday, 12/10! Featuring online learderboards, a completely redone stage 1 and a ton of polish since last the last time a demo was available online!

We'll also be holding a score contest once the demo's out. More info about that later.

Is there any talk of a physical release (on console) for this yet?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

kane wrote:What does the CPU sleep something setting do exactly at the low level?
The short answer: It's black magic

The long one: It changes how long the CPU is allowed to sleep before receiving further instruction.
The idea is that if the CPU can update the game fast enough, it can do nothing until the next time it needs to. This is getting into like fractions of milliseconds at some point, but basically decreasing the number will make the CPU sleep less and thus update more often, and increasing sleeping more and updating less often. This is handled automatically in most cases, but GMS2's implementation of it is pretty messy so I opted to give manual control over it so you can find settings that work if needed.
(Naturally it's not in the console versions since those are set hardware that I can tweak on my own)

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked it!
Still messing with the balance on everything and figuring out technical issues, so I hope to get most of that ironed out.
kane wrote: - Probably this is not final, but there is a big gap in quality in level design between stage 1 and 2. Stage 2 is excellent. Stage 1 is lifeless, especially once you're inside, it's turret after turret in otherwise empty spaces until the boss. Also in terms of visual design and detail, stage 1 looks drab and empty. Again compare that to the excellent stage 2.
To be 100% frank on this one; I'm just really bad at designing easy levels. The first half of stage 1 was redone from scratch recently but the latter half was only tweaked a bit (mostly made shorter). It'll get touched up again, but redoing it from scratch is out of the question if I want to get this thing out soon. The rest of the game only gets better from stage 2 onwards since I removed my limiters and stopped worrying about completely roadblocking people on stage 1 (the loop 2 version of stage 1's pretty good too).

Is there an indication to which way the flame launchers in Stage 2 are going to fire? Other enemy types seem consistent/readable but these guys are like don't be in ??? 5th of the screen after I spawn or you get an unavoidable projectile.

edit: figured out how to get scores over 100k on stage 1, enjoying the demo for sure. It does feel like the game gets fun once you've memorized the bulk of stages, otherwise it's hard to play aggressively and some things aren't indicated clearly
