What Are Your Most Wanted Shmups for Switch?

Post by Terramax »

Curious to know what games people would be most interested in having ported to switch. Lets keep it to a maximum of 5 games, and you can't say a series or a company's entire catalog. Here are mine:

- Gigawing - would love either a port of the Dreamcast version and, even better, tweaking of the awkward hitbox of your ship in previous versions. I don't think the original was TATE either, so it might be more fitting than many other shmups.

- Mushihimesama Futari - probably my favourite shmup. We've already the first on Steam, so I'd prefer this over to that anyhow.

- Parodius Da! My favourite in the series. It may not be as elaborate as later titles, but I find it the most accessible for 2 player gaming as well as much easier to navigate around. Great soundtrack to boot.

- Progear - one of the few games I've wanted to play but never had a change. This looks like it'd look fantastic on the switch.

Curious how this is different from simply listing your five favorite shmups?

1. Jamestown - I haven't played it yet, but have heard nothing but good things, including about the soundtrack. Seems like low hanging fruit.

2. DariusBurst CS - Not my favorite in the series, but again, it seems like something that could be done at a technical level, and something that would have some name recognition, unlike a new game like Shikhondo, or a revival like Psyvariar Delta.

3. Cyvern - I would love to see an "Arcade Archives" release of this game. I just really want a console port, and the Switch would be where I'd want to play it.

Already getting Thunder Force IV, so I don't have to add that to my list ;)

Mars Matrix is crying out for a port to any modern system.

Erm, because it can include games you've never played before. Because some of your favourite shmups perhaps may not fit well on the small screen. Or maybe some of your favs are already on the Switch. Or re-releases of games that could also be improved upon their original releases.

@Special World Didn't think of Mars Matrix. Good call.

I'm just waiting for the Hamster ACA releases of Rapid Hero, Thunder Dragon 2 and Turbo Force.

Viper Phase 1 needs a good port as well.

Another vote for Dariusburst. I already have it on PS4 but it wouldn't hurt to have a new version on Switch, perhaps as a bundle with all the DLC.

How silly of me, not to include Viper Phase 1! It's one of my most-wanted shmups, and since it still has no console port, it's one of the few arcade cabinets I would definitely want to own.

I was looking through the list of UPL arcade titles on the Switch, since we recently got Omega Fighter. I wonder what the chances are, of getting their other games? Here's the list of shmups I found from UPL:
  • Mission XX
  • Task Force Harrier
  • Mustang - U.S.A.A.F./Fire Mustang
  • Acrobat Mission
  • Bio Ship Paladin/Spaceship Gomera
  • Black Heart
  • Vandyke
  • Strahl
From this list, the games I'd most want are Task Force Harrier, Fire Mustang, Acrobat Mission, Black Heart, and definitely Strahl. We didn't get Acrobat Mission on the SNES here in the US, and Genesis copies of Task Force Harrier EX have become expensive. Bio Ship Paladin would be okay, though it's been a few years since I played around with it in MAME, and I seem to remember it being a bit janky. But I've heard good things about Strahl, so I'd want to give that a try. Black Heart reminds me of Dragon Breed, but without the additional mechanics that made it unique. It might still be fun to play. Vandyke looks sort of like Undead Line w/o autoscrolling, or Gondomania, but on foot.

Capcom Beat ’Em Up Bundle will include Battle Circuit & Armored Warriors for the first time on console.
Im starting to think that progear could have good chance to be included if they releases a shmups bundle.

Nebulasray would be really cool to play in vertical.
Maybe if Bandai Namco made another Namco Museum for Switch they could toss it in?

YESSSSS I want a Takumi pack so bad. Especially since Giga Wing Generations never got a really good home port. I find these days leaning more GigaWing than Mars Matrix, just because I feel like I've gotta play Mars Matrix every day to stay in shape if I want any chance of doing decently at it :D GigaWing is mellower.

I think I'll also throw in Xevious Resurrection. Being a huge Xevious fan I would absolutely love
to play this on my Switch in tate mode. Even more so Bandai Namco delisted the game (as well as Namco Museum Essentials)
from the PS Store recently, so that's even more of a reason to port it.

Wait, it's been delisted? Well, thank God I got the game back in 2014.

That Capcom BEUP limited is sweet. A shmup one would be even sweeter.
Personally, I'd like Border Down port, but, yeah, prolly not gonna happen.

Could it be a sign that in 2009 Namco knew that the Nintendo Switch would be code-named NX.

Port confirmed

I want Sega to bring back After Burner Climax after it was unfairly delisted from Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in 2014 due to a fallout between Sega and Boeing.

Nope. Don't count on it.
At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.

Farewell.

I mean, what caused the license to expire in the first place? How come Namco's Ace Combat series is still strong while Sega's After Burner isn't? That's not fair!
