I can't wait until they port this to consoles, it'll be the best hentai shooter yet!
lmao...
Yeah so this game is pretty cool. Coins will vaccum if you destroy enemies with your normal shot as well as your shikigami now (but you still get more coins for a shiki kill). The hi-tension thingy and fast extends (plus being able to see via meter how close you are to an extend) create some hella cool scoring opportunities. Bombs no longer can give you a xN bonus and are only for survival (though some like Reika's allow you to clear the screen and set yourself up for a xN after the bomb stops).
Also, I've heard some people are having a problem getting past the start screen. Something about when they "hit any button to start" the game crashes. I think it was ArrogantBastard who was having this problem. Anyone have suggestions?

thanks, i had the "game exits when you press enter" problem and this fixed itDandy J wrote:ArrogantBastard, try chaning your language for non-unicode programs to Japanese. Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Advanced tab -> Language for Non-Unicode Programs. Someone I know was having the exact same problem and this fixed it.
this game is a lot harder than the second one, i think this is mainly because there is no slowdown at all, there was quite a lot in the 2nd game on the gamecube and ps2 anyway. are there any options for this? (i have looked as a lot of the menu's are english but couldn't find anything so it doesn't look good )
thanks, suppose that's fair enough then. doubt i'll like this anywhere near as much as the 2nd one as with the fast bullets its a lot more like a psikyo game than a cave one
might try and induce some slowdown by running a shed load of other programs at the same time although if it works the slowdown will probably be the rubbish kind where the bullets jerk around

No need to do that, just run it on a PII 700MHz PC with 64M RAM.msm wrote:might try and induce some slowdown by running a shed load of other programs at the same time although if it works the slowdown will probably be the rubbish kind where the bullets jerk around

Don´t know if this has been mentioned yet, but there is (finally!) a trial version for PC:

... if I can even play it!
(Best/newest video card I have access to is an ATI Radeon 9000 or something like that. It's not the hottest.)

Mine worked fine, I have a 2.5 ghz machine (500mb ram) with some generic preinstalled ATI card (the whole PC costed about 400 euro, but is only a year old or so). Make sure you have DirectX 9.0 installed.
The demo has the complete first stage (as the Shiki2 demo did too), and the first two characters from the first selection screen row as well as Kuga are playable.
I have no idea what their names are and I can´t check them now, but it´s this one girl that shoots huge rings and has a thin straight needle shot as shiki attack, the second one is a boy which fires daggers or something and has some sort of laser wand or saber as shiki attack - a straight vertical line which can also be pointed in any direction or be locked on to a certain point.
I don´t know much about the modes as I didn´t care much for the game until this demo was released, but it´s quite a standard mode you play here - no extreme mode with sucky characters like in the ShikiII demo (I wouldn´t have bought the game if the demo was my only impression of it, since they took out the coolest characters and lets you play with ones that are not very fitting in extreme mode).
It slows down at the beginning sequence (flying throuh under that bridge) and on several occasions during the first stage. Looks not very different from "intentional" slowdown to be honest, and isn´t jerky as well, though it seems not to be determined on the number of bullets but also the 3D objects (logically, as it´s my own machines slowdown).
The two new selectable characters are very pleasing already, as they move very fast during the shiki attacks, which makes quick evasive moves possible without releasing the shiki button. The laser saber boy has some sort of Kim feeling to him, a very strong attack that you can pierce into the enemies, and that girl has a nice straight forward shot and moves fast, which makes playing with her feel more shmup-traditional. I am glad that this time around things are a bit faster.

gameplay was too fast on my machine as well (athlon 2400, gf 4200, 1024x768)
in your video card driver settings however, if you ensure vertical sync is enabled and force your monitor display mode to 60hz (i.e. i played at 1024x768 @60hz) the frame rate seems to limit itself to that refresh rate. i'm assuming 60hz is the correct choice here, plays nicely =D

Could anyone who has this rate it for longevity? It seems quite expensive by genre standards (ie: it's vaguely sensibly priced, not bargain-bin at release). I'm not much interested in playing intensively for score, but would be happy playing with as many characters as aren't downright painful to use. I figure that should give it enough installed time to warrant an import?
On a related note, are there any annoying issues with the PC port of Shikigami 2? (Hopefully ok to tack this question on here, rather than necro'ing a separate thread.) I have it on PAL PS2, but that's unfortunately managed the impressive feat of overcoming my customary indifference to shoddy port/localization jobs. My fault, of course - should've investigated it properly first. If it's worth replacing with the PC version, I assume the apparent multiple versions are just budget label re-issues? Thanks in advance for any info.
