So I got a US Sammy license Omega Fighter board (pic) and the gameplay is pretty different to and harder than what's in MAME. By the 4th wave you're being fired at, see this video I made and compare with what happens in MAME (ignore the purposefully bad playing):

I initially assumed this is an undumped harder US release, as was pretty common but all the relevant ROMs match MAME's set. Talking to people in #mame, this may actually be an issue with the game in MAME, meaning that a lot of scores are now invalid as it plays much differently on a board, and it's a pretty rare board so everyone's (well everyone with weird taste) playing this in MAME. There is no other video I can find of the game being played on a real board. If someone owns the Japanese board (with no Sammy sticker) can you confirm if the 4th wave of enemies fires at you, at any difficulty setting? On my board it happens even at easy. This would be not only a help to me but a help to the MAME devs to learn how the game is supposed to play.
Anyone own a legit JP Omega Fighter PCB?

Putting that new cab to good use! Omega Fighter is an awesome game.
I personally can't help with your question, but I'm pretty sure Owlnonymous has a board, but I don't know what version it is. Also don't know if they read/post here, maybe reach out to him on Twitch?

Weird, so basically enemy shots that are supposed to be fired aren't firing? Wow, that would be a huge issue in MAME then.
I can't get OF or OF:Special to get those bullets to fire in MAME, regardless of dip settings. I did find another video similar to yours, but it doesn't identify if it's recording PCB captured gameplay or if it's an emulator, but those waves of enemies are firing bullets:

and also this run which, based on video quality, could very well be a PCB footage captured (it's a 4 part ALL clear of the game so it could be useful as reference for the MAME devs):

This might explain why Omega Fighter was ranked so high on the Japanese STG wiki difficulty list. I actually almost managed to 1-ALL it some time back in like... two(?) weeks of play or so, and was surprised to see it ranked at 29. Even in MAME it's pretty hard to recover from dying in, though.

I doubt there is a region diffefence on the PCB from Japan to US for this board. I don't have any sammy sticker on mine but running the special rom set on default difficulty has bullets on 4th wave of enemies

Does the enemy behavior in yours match the video I posted?Shou wrote:I do have a Japanese PCB
e: nm, didn't see elabit's post under yours, thanks for confirming elabit!

it looks like a capture to me, would be interesting to find out

I just updated to 0.199 and it seems like this has been fixed: https://github.com/mamedev/mame/commit/ ... b2c3f03803
