cave 10-page article from 2010

Post by qmish »

here are scans (remind me to remove 'em later if needed)

Spoiler

i see some sort of interview + features (overview of cave's games, maybe some commentary).

So, the question is, was this already translated? I checked both shmuplations and gamengai but didnt find this material.

And the more important question addressed to those who can read it - is this material worth translating? Does it have anything new that aint already covered in other interviews?

Thanks for this! :D
Can't read it either, but Google Translate does the job (at least 80%).

Thanks to whoever originally scanned that.

Any points you can possibly extract as main things?

(i'm alive)

The interview with Ikeda is pretty cool. There are some comments from his time at Toaplan that I think would be of interest to people, goes into some good depth about his STG philosophy too. There are also some comments about Cave's "misses" which are interesting and new (I think), and behind-the-scenes comments from Ikeda about all the games up to that point.

I mean, Cave has been pretty exhaustively covered in terms of interviews so its scraping the barrel in a sense, but I think it's worth translating. The comments from other developers/musicians are nice too.

I will try and get to this for my planned "March Rebirth" for shmuplations...!

Glad to see you again and thanks for commentary!
Best wishes for your plans.

p.s. i wanted to ask, Sting/Baroque interview you have in "hidden treasures", from what magazine/source was it?

edit

And second question (please, forgive me), are interviews from Guwange/ESP Ra. De. Artworks already translated and/or planned (looked like interviews about these games were done from other sources)? If not, i was gonna to photo or scan them from book.

Thanks, it's good to be back. I majorly burned out and then had a lot of life troubles, but basically the workload became unsustainable (or rather, it had been for awhile, and I finally cracked). I'm going to be doing something I've never tried (in earnest) before with shmuplations, which is getting some help with the site. I love translating but the time spent with all the other stuff (web publishing, formatting the articles, site maintenance-y stuff) just became too much for a one-man venture. I'll have a slightly more detailed post for patreon to make soon, once I've finished some of the backlog here.

I feel like gamengai already did those Guwange/Esprade artbook interviews...? It's a dim memory but the last time I looked into, I seem to recall they had been translated (somewhere).

The Sting/Baroque interview is from Game Hihyou, one of the best of the 90s jp game magazines.

At GaijinPunch's Gamangai site i see

1) Gamest (at least it noted as that) esp ra. de. interview in "world of esprade" page
2) guwange developers game talk (source??)
3) interview with joker jun on both games and toaplan/cave in general

While in artbook i see distinct two interviews. So i guess need to make picture of them so anybody can tell whether it matches something that is already done.

Interesting, thanks. There was also some interview in sega saturn magazine, and - my dream for future years that it would be translated one day - baroque's artbook texts.

Hopefully you can get some help, your site is an indispensable resource.

BTW, and sorry for being off-topic, there are short interviews in the new Toaplan AC OST reissues that I would love to read (assuming they're different from what was in shooting chronicle). Just letting you know they exist.

Which artbook is this? 2010 was kind of my wheelhouse for this kind of shit, despite my life crumbling. :)

At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.

Farewell.

Guwange / ESP Ra.De. Artworks, i'm under impressions that text from that are not the ones who translated.

Sorry, maybe you can recognize letters from my blurry photo and determine whether or not it is something untranslated or not (or, better, if you have book too and can check it yourself):

Hmm, maybe I was wrong about them being translated. The content doesn't sound immediately familiar to me. I'd be happy to translate them though. Esprade is a particular favorite of mine.

About halfway done with this Cave 15th anniversary interview too, lots of good stuff so far. I miss Cave.
