So I played the game, and I have some questions.

First, with rank, does a low number mean easier or harder?

Second, how do you get the extend with the zan counter?

Third, does your ship getting destroyed actually make the game more difficult? I ask because I saw that the rank number went down when I died, but I don't know what that means.

Please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks!

Dying with fewer men in stock lowers rank more depending on the fewer you have in stock so dyin down to no men in stock lowers it the most. So milking (destroying destructible bullets with normal shot) and suiciding down to no men in stock is the easiest way to control rank. The original PS also worked this way but the "rank cushions" are more pronounced in PSSC so it's actually a useable system. Ibara works the same way except you're using plain score for extras instead of milking destructibles.

Thanks for the help, it worked this time!

(getting murdered very violently for now...)
(also I wonder if I have a button issue because there's long moments when I can't control the formation anymore, it's stuck on forward)

How to install Pink Sweets: Suicide Club
For Windows 10

Step 1: Go to the Four Horsemen website and download the rom patcher, titled suicideclub.exe

Step 2: Open the pinkswtsx rom and copy all the files from the zip to the location of the rom patcher

Step 3: Run the rom patcher from command prompt; Navigate to the directory using cd and then type "suicideclub * "

At this point the executable will take the four original files and write its own code to them.

Step 4: Delete the four original files, and then rename the files accordingly.

suicideclub.u2 --> pinkswtsx_u2
suicideclub.u4 --> pinkswtsx_u4
suicideclub.u23 --> u23
suicideclub.u24 --> u24

Note: Each time, it will ask you if you want to change the extension; Say yes each time

Step 5: Select the four files, then right click, and click send to --> compressed (zip) file

Step 6: Rename the created zip file "pinkswtsx" and drag it to your roms folder

Now, when you want to run the game, navigate to your mame folder and type mame32/mame64 pinkswtsx

And you're good to go!

I hoped this helped people get the game up and running

It doesn't really matter which rom you use as long as it's pinkswts

I'm a believer in the you can't polish a turd theory so i don't want to play this at all but i do wonder why do they release these weird exes instead of just releasing the files or rom as a whole?

As far as I know, hosting a patcher program with your own changes is legal while hosting a hacked rom isn't since it contains copyrighted code.

A complete lack of complaints is actually a very positive thing when you are on the most bratshit board on the web.

Nice to see Bananas can troll here every day for years and never be banned.

Well it is a hack of Cave's least popular game. Sort like how you are this board's least popular poster.

That analogy doesn't really makes sense, considering how many complaints about Banana there are.

It's not surprising considering to play it you have to either deal with CV1K emulation or modify an existing PCB, both of which are crazy in their own right, and then you're playing Pink Sweets, which is another level of crazy.

On the topic of emulation it is necessary to use an emulator featuring some fashion of lag reduction there, which is currently still quite demanding, while cv1k emu and in particular PS is already quite heavy.

For reference with GM 0.196 and no image processing other than bilinear+prescale 2, I cannot push frame_delay beyond 5 otherwise I get frame drops especially in the 'crevasse' stage. And my PC is currently equipped with an i5-4690k and R7 260X...

Of course it'd definitely be easier if I had a FreeSync or G-Sync monitor since I wouldn't need to use any lag reduction options.

(well, maybe we'll get frame_slice/beam racing somewhere in not too long. maybe...)

BTW any idea is there is a preferred blitter delay value for that game ?

Now that so many people finally had a chance to test it (and hopefully weren't put off by the technical challenges): what do you guys think of the gameplay differences? Do you prefer it over the original? I would be interested in reading some opinions. :)

I created the rom file as explained in a post above but i have no idea how to play that on my pc. Mame 0.197 just starts Pink Sweets.

Even though it is a hack, it still seems like the definitive version of the game. It basically takes the mechanics and fixes them. I believe that if the game had been like this when it ran in the arcades, it would have fared much better.

LOL got 5 lives at the 3rd stage mid boss, an extend drop during the last enemy wave before the boss, and one more during the boss fight (that would be 7 lives) in my first credit.

Not getting more real extends or even a score bonus for having max life stock kinda sux, the rank doesn't drop as much as I thought it would (suiciding has never been a good strategy in the game if you keep losing all your power ups when you do that), and the ship respawn still takes a shitlot of time.

I like some of the changes (the focus button alla 2hu is an excellent idea imo), but I still prefer the original game.

Just rename the game as "pinkswtsx.zip" and the files inside as:
pnkswtsx_u2
pnkswtsx_u4
u23
u24
and mame will boot the hack when you run that romset.

none, the yagawa games play better without slowdowns

Hey there.

I would like to play with your game but i'm kinda lost. I saw a rom is available, but wasn't cavesh3 emulation not accurate because of slowdown problem ? I guess this problem hasn't been solved ? or maybe your rom is destined to be flashed on a real SH3 PCB and not play on emulator ?

:p
P.S. more research indicates the blitter is barely even related to the slowdown, it's all in the CPU. MAME's got the clocks all wrong, there's a lot of work that would need to be done to get it performing right.
