Project RXN [Gulti]

Post by Elixir »

http://rxn.jp

Official site is up with a countdown, more news in 33 days.

From what I've seen it appears to be a console vertical shmup.

I haven't actively browsed/used this forum in many years and it's no longer an accurate representation of me.

I have retired from genre-specific content creation after 13 years, but I'll always love this little genre in my own personal way.

Link only seems to work with the "www" prefix or using http instead of https.

Somehow the teaser's giving me a Raiden vibe.

Successor to Raiden Fighters perhaps?

^^^ Yah probably the lightning striking combined with the placement of the jp characters. Seems like a deliberate Raiden homage/reference.

A commercial developer releasing a game for consoles in this decade is some sort of strange miracle. Glad it still somehow happens.

They announced they were making this about a year ago--the info they gave then was that it's a 2.5D game for Steam, made using Unreal Engine 4, and that they're aiming to make something really pretty. They also said they're self-publishing, IIRC.

Gulti was bought out by a large multi-venture company called Kayac and they mostly do VR stuff nowadays.

That would be amazing!

Where are you seeing consoles mentioned?
I'm definitely hoping for a physical PS4 release (of this game that I still know absolutely nothing about - but hey, you gotta take what you can get)

So what games did Gulti make in the past? Google isn't being particularly helpful.

They're ex-Seibu Kaihatsu/MOSS people, specifically the people who made the Raiden Fighters games; they did the X360 ports for those games, as well as Mamoru-kun Curse! and some other contracted ports and so on.

Cool, I do hope it's something in the style of Raiden Fighters. RF2 ranks in my top 5 shmups of all time as well.

I hope this is more in the style of Raiden DX instead of the Raiden Fighters games, but any Raiden spin off has my attention. I'll be keeping an eye on this for sure.

Here's their gameography up to now:

I didn't remember them having a hand in Strike Witches.

They did the console ports; they weren't involved with the original doujin release.

They're heavily rumoured to be the mystery contractor behind Thunder Force VI, not that they'd ever admit to having anything to do with that game.

I mean, even the letters RXN seem like a total callback to Raiden. So if not an actual game in the series (I assume that's not likely?) then probably their own take on it, which IMO would be even better. I feel like Raiden can be a little stuck in its ways, not that I've played a ton of games in the series. I'd appreciate something with that feel that's not held back by player and developer expectations of what a Raiden game has to be.

Official site has been updated.

Looks like a mecha-themed shmup. Winter 2017 release date.

It seems to be a PC exclusive. Hopefully it'll make it's way to PSN.

"A powerful tate STG that uses the whole 16x9 screen." Hopefully that really means 9x16.

Mamorukun and Strike Witches (360) are good games, but this is starting to sound sketchy. 16:9 vertical scrolling, Steam only, and the site says something about challenging the ideas of "get hit 3 times and the game ends" and "always starting from stage 1". It almost sounds like this is being made for westerners who don't like shooting games.

Wouldn't a vertical scrolling 16:9 game just imply a vertizontal game?

The idea is 16:9 vertizontal is too much, unlike traditional 4:3 vertizontal which only increases the game area width by 33% compared to most traditional 3:4 shmups, since those have a square play area with some horizontal scrolling, with 16:9 you get a 77% increase which is rarely justified without a gimmick like multiple viewports or a focus on multiplayer first.

Chances that this has something to do with RF are looking pretty grim.

Maybe that will push more (new) shooters onto the system on top of the ports the Switch has received.

The trailer makes it look like a rough concept, so here's to hoping they tighten up enemy waves and bullets to make it menacing. The aspect ratio doesn't bother me, especially if their stated aim "to dodge attacks from all sides" is kept - think of it as inspired by Zero Gunner 2 philosophy.

Judging by the trailer the most "Raiden-like" thing about this game is the logo.

There's a healthbar of some sort, wonder if it regenerates over time or something like that.

The framerate seemed to stutter at times in the trailer, I hope that's just bad recording.
