"OS: Windows 8.1 / 10 only", backed up with "Additional Notes: Xinput controller recommended, not compatible with Windows 7".

No Win7 support? Oh well, I'll stick with Shikigami no Shiro EX then. The store page nor the trailer seem to mention any new bonus modes anyway.

This port seems to be based on an iOS port from a few years ago... did anyone play that version?

Well I can understand not wanting to support Win 7 given 8.1 and 10 are both later releases - it's hell for testing resource to have to cover multiple operating systems.

Likewise CPU/RAM/graphics minimum are mad high, but you're going to want to baseline on modern tech rather than risk it not running on new hardware.

But it needs to not be locked out of Win 7 and older hardware, so people can run it but are not entitled to support if there are issues can't be replicated on minimum specs.

That's... weird.

What I'm more nervous about is that there's no images of the story text yet. That's most of the appeal of Castle Shikigami(for us crazy folk anyway).

Also here's Kohtaro's bio:

Right so this port requires many multiples of resources more to run than the original pc port and now only runs on shitty 8 and shitty 10?..... best of luck with your sale.

Over 50% of Steam users participating in the hardware/software survey are on Windows 10 and have far more than the required hardware specs, but 30% are still on Windows 7 and I bet that percentage is higher within the change-averse shmups community. If the DirectX 11 requirement is really true, then I won't be able to play the game on my desktop (though I would on my laptop) despite being on Windows 10 due to having an old graphics card that lacks driver support for DX11. I wasn't planning on playing it anyway, though, so I'm not miffed about that.

Also:
Processor: orei3 2.3 MHz or better

They probably wrote that just to narrow the number of receivable complaints "we don't support W7 or older, not our problem".
Same for the wtf minimum requirements. Nobody should ever mind those anyway.

PS: I remember with the Cave games, I've tried different OSes and sync settings, read all the threads because the games were plagued by undefeatable game-breaking sync hiccups ingame, on two of my bloody computers... found out by myself that switching to Intel HD iGPUs instead of the nVidia I have, fixed everything and the games then ran smoothly.
That's one thing to remember with ports of JP PC games; they don't seem to deal with that nVidia/AMD shit with drivers and OSes shenanigans as 'well' as we do here (which is already a huge mess anyway)

I wish them much luck, but I'm not buying a game that might run on my OS.

With that kind of logic, doing anything at all is a mistake.

Anyway, it wouldn't surprise me if the system requirements turn out to be a bit overblown. It has happened before, after all.

 the old game release ran fine on xp so it is nothing to do with specs. but if it flat out doesn't work on windows 7 then hardly anyone on this forum will buy it because i imagine most people here are running windows 7.

I have 8 only because I got a new desktop around the time it came out. I told MS to go kick rocks in regards to anything past that, though.

Every sane person must know that most people use either 7 or 10, because 8 was a testing playground before 10 like Vista before 7.

I like 8.1 w/ Classic Shell much more than 10, and 7 more than both. :P

I was looking forward to this release, as I had briefly played a few credits of the second one on my friend's PS2 and enjoyed it. The lack of Windows 7 support means I'll probably pass, or at least wait and see if it's possible.

If the first Shikigami took place in 2005, and the second took place in 2006, what year did the interquel visual novel as well as the third game take place? I assume the third game took place in 2008.

Super happy this is getting the official stamp as an English release. SNS II is one of my favourite games. Hopefully the rest of the series'll end up on Steam too. :)

We have reports from testers that it does work on W7, we just can't guarantee it will perform identically on W7, as development was not targeted to that OS. I'm sure fans will be able to tell you if it is identical to W10 performance soon after release.

Well there's nothing to this old game to justify it not working on Win7.
