yoko is a jp. adjective, meaning horizontal
So John Lennon's widow is "Horizontal Ono?" That's funny. :)

Definitely. That's how I do it.

That's kind of an old pic, as I've moved consoles around since then, but you get the basic idea. That TV cart is the perfect height for shmupping in my computer chair.

Those Commodore monitors are great for tate-ing. The first time I did it, I only had slight discolorations on the top-left and bottom-right corners. They've since disappeared completely.

I guess thats all fine and dandy, if you like small screens and an uncomfortable computer/office chair.

One thing to consider. If your just starting out with gaming and Tate, it might be a better idea to simply buy a vert cab and go with PCB's.

Wrong on both counts. My computer chair is a high-backed executive-style leather swivel (it's really comfy, trust me), and I sit close enough to my setup where size isn't an issue. It's the visual equivalent of sitting 6 feet away from a 27" TV.

well, in the arcade you´re sitting 2 feet away from a 27" screen.

Which is exactly the way I do it!

Maybe I can show some pics of my setup later on...

The hell? That looks like a slightly bruised VF4 Versus City cabinet. O_o

On-topic, I still need to get an RF unit or RF Modulator for my systems so that I can tate my old 20" TV from before I went to college. I rather enjoy using my HDTV for it (it's widescreen, but the viewing area for 4:3 is about a 36") and running yoko is fine for the most part, but I'd still rather tate if I have the opportunity. Which would you guys suggest I go with (mod or unit)? It's mainly PS2 stuff.

Cabs like that are really nice. I actually prefer those over the American "beater" cabs.
However, they can be hard to find, especially if you live in a small town.

^ That above pic is almost making me cry.
Thats a Namco Excell----something?

Anyway, I could have bought one for $400.00 with two PCB's included...one of which was 1942.

The sitdown design, the cup/beer holders, the side speakers, 29" rotatable monitor...
I'am crying now!!!!

Maybe one day...just not now, anytime soon.

SUPER... I ordered one, controls werent working, sent it back and I am still waiting for a new one (approx. 2,5 months). ECL is not the best place when it comes to customer service :(. Although I never got problems when I ordered something. Anyway, the main flaw with the SUPER is the total dumb assignment of connections on the JAMMA edge. They put Button 6 on Pin 27, which is GND by default! So, not compatible with the standard cabinets. :x

Actually I don't use a super/MCGD whatever...I hack all my consoles so I can play them in cabs. Its not too difficult (if you have some basic soldering skills). I wrote an FAQ awhile back just for this if you are interested.

So this cab is now compatible with Jamma, PC/Mame, DC, PS2, Xbox, and GC. And the monitor supports 15khz thru 38khz. Its a little bit of a pain to switch around the wiring harness between setups, but its worth it.

I don't tate. I never have, and I'm not sure I ever will. I have a 32" Zenith that I've had for nearly 7 years now, and until it dies I'm not planning on purchasing another TV. I'm not about to start tate-ing that huge thing...what a pain! Especially since my entertainment center has all kinds of game systems connected to it. I own 12 consoles currently, 10 of which are connected to the TV at all times. Add to that my VCR & DVD player, and the fact that the audio from my TV is lined out to my stereo, and I have no desire to tate. As long as vert shmups offer a scaled down version (i.e. DonPachi for Saturn) or a "wobble" mode like most Psykio shmups, I'm cool.
