Shmup Convention Survey: We need your feedback!

There's a group of us who are in the beginning stages of putting a shmup convention that could be "Wasshoi in the USA." The event would take place at a hotel in San Francisco, CA close to an international airport. this is a pretty funny list. mainly because if I walked in and was looking to play something, I would solely play crimzon clover and wouldn't be interested in anything else - will raiden v release this year? do we even have high score thread on here for luftrausers? not that that matters..

I'd like to see some super expensive boards that I might not otherwise ever get to play on a cab
i.e. mushihimesama blue label if that's even possible

This sounds like something I could see myself attending as well, especially if I can have my new game ready to promote by then.
So because of that I'm interested in seeing what kind of options the con will have for vendor display.

A couple other thoughts:

What kinds of other vendors may be interested? For example, I know JList is an official licensed Touhou vendor now, and this seems like something they may be interested in supporting, if not sponsoring.

Probably want to make sure there's considerations for cosplay, or even active promotion of it with a shmup cosplay themed show or contest.

The idea of a swapmeet of sorts brought up during the last show sounded really cool. Might even be another avenue to attract people as well, if you bill it as a general video game swapmeet to attract gamers of all stripes, then get them to stick around for the shmups.

What kind of benefits would there be to trying to get the twitch channel partnered? Some promotional avenue available there with them?

Really love seeing all the interest! We're keeping an eye on this thread and keeping track of all of the suggestions as we plan this.

I know we're really shooting for the moon, but we need contacts that would be able to get a hold of the Japanese designers/superplayers requested: Ikeda and Yagawa at CAVE, Mihara at Arika, Yotsubane - Crimzon Clover, etc. SPS, SOF-WTN, Kamui, etc.

Also translators that can help with live interviews at a panel/general green room stuff so we can communicate with each other.

Also perhaps players that want to submit a superplay video for live demos, please post up in here with your interest in coming out.

If you look at Evo, that started almost 20 years ago with a few hundred people in a California arcade. Positive attitudes among the FGC and determination to keep hosting it have made it into one of the biggest FG events worldwide.

Just goes to show what positive attitude and determination can do for an event, and a genre...

It would be really awesome to see the usual convention merch section in effect - if we could get the Japanese devs to set up booths at this convention, then it would be a fantastic opportunity for people to get access to shmup related goods that would usually be harder to find - doujin games, CAVE merch, arcade hardware, physical games, cabinet art, and so on.

Is this going to be *just* for shmups, or are other arcade games encouraged as well?
