Battle Crust (Picorinne Soft + Hyakutaro Tsukumo)

Post by EXMaster »

Came across this and didn't see a thread. Thought I drop a note in right quick.

The makers of Infinos, Picorinne Soft, have a new shooter coming out called "Battle Crust", featuring FM synth music by Hyakutaro Tsukumo, a favored composer around these parts.

Looks like the thought process behind this one was: "Let's make R-Type, but vertically scrolling!" I'm okay with this.

That's called "Image Fight".

I, too, am okay with this. Mmm, sweet environmental hazards.

Looks like a fun rtype-ish game, and FM synth is always great in my book :)

I'm assuming this will be a physical doujin release?

Very obviously a slavish tribute to Irem. Would have preferred a more original effort, but I am also okay with this.

Music sounds good, looks spiffy! I have never been a big fan of Image Fight, but this does look like it would be fun. Old school shooty goodness. Probably PC only, I presume?

This looks bloody great. Likely to be a PC-only doujin release, right?

This is where I hope we see something along the lines of a Part 2 to the themes of Sodom and/or Dorado from Blast Wind. The sample music isn't suggesting anything like "The Ritual", though.

(Yes, I think the fifth boss was supposed to be called Dorado, not Drad. As in the city El Dorado, which would maintain the mythical city reference theme with Sodom and Atlantis. Not that I have any idea what Ostragle is...)

I have no idea if the developer knows what they're doing or not, since I've seen nothing beyond easy first stage gameplay, but I will probably pick it up just to hear that soundtrack :3

I wasn't able to get my hands on a boxed copy since it sold out too quickly at C89, so I'm glad it's coming to Steam. Although I'd still like a boxed copy for my collection.

Yeah, I mean, worst case scenerio, you still have an excellent Hyakutaro Tsukumo album that just happens to have a game included (unless the tracks that aren't in the demo suck, but that seems unlikely).

This came out today! It's good. R-Tate is a good way to describe it, actually. I've only played a handful of credits, but it's an all-around pleasant game so far.

Some baffling choices in terms of config, though. If you want to tate (which you really do), you have to select a separate beta version in the properties. Scanlines are only available in this tate build, too! A shame, because they're actually done well.

Not working with my Hori 360 stick (VX SE Kai), pretty disappointing for a game I actually paid money for

Really cool game. Presentation & stage design is great and everything is telegraphed well. Music is godlike. I 1cc'd normal on first try, looks like hard is the way to go if you want an arcade-like challenge.

Stage 5 and everything after is so good.

Some technical problems with current version (normal&TATE build): couldnt get fullscreen working properly on any setup (it just scales a window with borders within the monitor space) & windowed kept going outside of screen space when I tried to use 640x480.
