Big ups to Softdrink for posting up this video about STGWeekly Year in Review recap and 2015 announcements:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xGaHOMco1Q

Hi everyone,

2014 was a big year! There was a shmups marathon for charity, more Awesome Game Replays episodes were created, and we gave live presentations and demos at Anime Los Angeles, SoCal Regionals, Anime Expo, and TouhouCon. We also introduced a podcast/call-in show format where you viewers can ask questions and give commentary--so your voice is heard. Last but not least, long time collaborator trap15 came aboard as another host.

We’re trying to level up our game by making some New Year’s Resolutions. In order to provide more quality show and to be respectful of the staff’s personal time commitments, we’re going from weekly to biweekly episodes, something that we’ve been unofficially doing as of now. This way we can provide a more reliable schedule for you viewers at home.

But enough of the bad news, we’re pressing onward with many more ideas, some of which are: a collaboration episode with the StunFest organizers, another charity marathon stream, appearances at more conventions, more organized and publicly visible schedule system (more notice before episodes!), and finally a live shmup tournament. We are also in the process of building a proper website to host the show, and are discussing ways to improve the STGWeekly Radio and podcast structure.

STGWeekly is a community effort, without your suggestions, commentary, and overall participation there would be no STGWeekly. Let’s keep on keeping on.

Sincerely,
The STGWeekly crew

Heads up guys; I've decided not to use HFD's run after some more thought. It is technically a superplay DVD and as such I do not feel comfortable sharing it publicly, even though it is already widely available on Youtube and other services. I would highly, highly recommend interested parties go watch it on their own time, as it is one of the most amazing examples of high-level play (in any game) I've ever seen.

My apologies!

However, we might be covering some extra content to make up for it... stay tuned!

Just got done watching the twitch archive. Wish I could have been in the chat but I wasn't able to make it. Some notes:

I assume Prometheus bombed off to the side during the Hibachi fight because hitting him with the laser bomb gives you some push-back. Moving to the side let him go up and grab the hyper while he was still invulnerable.

My deaths in 2-3 and 2-5 were unintentional. 2-3 was especially bad, since you normally want to survive until the last phase of the boss before suiciding, as Jaimers mentioned. Dying before that point almost always means you're fucked because the boss is so hard to no miss/no bomb. It's okay to die after the beehive in 2-5, but ideally you'll want to dodge everything. That section can be nearly impossible if your timing is even slightly off, though. That wasn't the case for me, I just died stupidly. :P

Sometimes I'll intentionally skip a bee because in WL, it's very important to have an exact amount of hyper at certain points in the stage. That's why even dropping your chain can be enough to end your credit.

You can actually start stages at full power in the 360 version's practice mode, you just have to press the start button instead of the A button to begin the stage. It's still worthless, though, because you can't adjust the rank, how many hypers you have, the hyper gauge, or anything that's essential to putting together a consistent strategy.

And finally, I'm not the first person outside of Japan to clear White Label. There are at least two Chinese players that have also done it (WY with 1.6b and WC. with 760m). I wouldn't be surprised if there were some other survival oriented clears as well.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I've messed around a bit and I've found out that that spot is actually a pretty good place to suicide in.
This way you skip the midboss, the crazy popcorn rush and it induces slowdown everywhere in 2-5 that normally wouldn't be there.
Because you get an extra bomb from the suicide you will also have enough resources to bomb the first boss and still have another bomb in stock for the opener of the second boss.
This makes everything a lot safer since failing to dodge that opener is an instant game over. All of the kamikaze popcorn in the suicide spot also makes it so that you can't really break the chain there when you die anyway.

OOOOooooOOOO progear! what other game can you be a youth killing old people. +1 for progear.

obviously, it goes without saying, im hoping for some dodonpachi (any of them), and some garegga. set a decent score on a garegga play not but a few hours ago, might have went farther had it not been for a really dumb death on stage 3 X.X' gotta love those...

Holy hell, that was amazing!

We managed to raise a total of $1,125 for children's hospitals thanks to everyone who tuned in and donated -- you guys ROCK! We also had an absolutely amazing time; one of the best live events I've ever been a part of without doubt.

Huge, HUGE thanks to trap15, joeybeta, Frenetic, jelloman, BrooksBishop, mikehaggar, and GDLKscrub for coming out and helping with this! Thanks also to Aquas for giving us a lot of help behind the scenes; you really made our lives easier.

And of course a massive thank you to absolutely everyone who donated -- I am positively blown away by the incredible generosity and spirit from everyone. The $1,000 goal was just a "heh, we'll never actually make this much so why not" thing; the fact that we got there and then some is just positively astounding. This community is godlike.

More detailed recap to come, but goddamn, what a great day. Shooting game never die! :D :D :D

EDIT: WE ARE ON THE EXTRA LIFE HOMEPAGE!

That's fantastic! I was only able to really catch the first hour or two, so I'm glad the support kept up its momentum.

Thanks for having me along in person to the event, guys! Was a hell of a lot of fun. Thanks again to Trap for the ride up too. Glad I could help in whatever capacity I was able to.

Highlights of the event for me:
  • MikeHaggar's amazing comfort setup involving 4 stacked chairs and a milk crate.
  • NeuroBliss: The drink(?) that no one knew what to think of, but wasn't half bad. And also people walked away with it by the case.
  • A rep from Microsoft walked over to us before the stream started while one of the best Tetris players in the US was sitting there playing TGM and said "Hey, you guys want to come play Evolve on Xbox One?"
  • I sucked at 2 man Garegga, but still had a blast doing it.
  • Sauro: The game where you play as a submarine that has to collect fuel canisters to keep its jet power going under water.
  • "Yes I kiss my waifu with this mou... FUCK." - Frenetic

Great stuff guys! It's really crazy to see how much STGWeekly has grown and I still can't believe it's been over two years now since it first started.
