R-Type Dimensions heads to PS3, headed Westward

Post by parallaxscroll2 »

R-Type Dimensions Brings The Bydo Empire To PS3 Next Week

By Spencer . November 13, 2013 . 10:35pm

R-Type Dimensions is a two game bundle with remakes of R-Type and R-Type II. Originally released for Xbox Live Arcade, Tozai Games announced they will bring the compilation to PlayStation 3
on November 21.

R-Type Dimensions has options to switch between 3D and classic 2D graphics. On top of that, the original arcade games R-Type (eight stages) and R-Type II (six stages) will be playable in Classic Mode.

The PlayStation 3 version also has enhanced audio in 3D mode, Infinite Mode where you have unlimited credits, and online & offline multiplayer. Other features like slow motion, key config, online rankings, and game stats are in the game too. R-Type Dimensions will cost 1,000 yen ($11) on the PlayStation Store.

R-Type Dimensions was worth it on XBLA, so I hope the PS3-PSN version gets released outside Japan.

The games are great and the ports on Dimensions are decent enough, but why did it take so long to arrive to PSN? It's been on XBLA since 2009.

I wonder if they improved the netcode for this release.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Awesome music in this trailer. Is there actually remixed music selectable in the games?

Given that the XBL version was released simultaneously in multiple regions this could be permanently exclusive to Japan. Maybe TOZAI feels that a western PSN release wouldn't even earn its "hosting fees" and that the XBL release has already sufficiently served that market.

So was the XBLA version ever patched to include key config?

I read they had to reverse engineer the games without any help from Irem.

If that's true, I'm kind of surprised they went through the trouble.

Still, decent news for PS3 owners [in Japan] [who care about remakes of 80s games]

Interesting that they're porting it this late. Does Tozai outright own the rights to R-Type at this point?

I just downloaded the demo and all the text is in English. It's not on the ESRB rating boards yet there's a chance this might come out stateside.

Is it me or does that trailer show the game running much slower than usual?

Enhanced audio?! No! I want! Why Japan only. ... Maybe they'll add the enhanced audio to the X-Box 360 version too via an update or DLC? Here's hoping, *fingers crossed*

Going by these videos, I'd say the music has certainly indeed been enhanced for PS3.

In some videos the menus are in Japanese, but in others they're in English.

I dunno if this has to do with the demo vs full version, or what.

R-Type Dimensions PS3 release dates for NA / EU

Post by GSK »

May 20 in NA, May 21 in EU. NA version is $9.99, don't see a price for the EU version anywhere.

This version has a button config, "enhanced audio", probably some other new junk that I can't identify.

So many good digital titles lately ... I upgraded to a 250GB hard drive but I'm quickly running out of room

I already have the R-Types PSX classics release, but the lag makes it really unplayable.

Damn after I got a Japanese PSN card and bought this earlier this year. I had a hunch it would come over considering all the menus and trophies are in English anyway lol. I'll probably double dip so I don't have to keep hopping back and forth between accounts to access all my games (that and I want to support the PSN shmup releases considering they are flowing in and they aren't garbage ones like Soldner X-2 either).

So far it's been my go to game for the first two R-Types. I very much prefer Dimensions over the originals. It's not Delta or Final but I can really appreciate the game for what they can offer. If only we can get Leo in some shape or form on consoles. I have it on my PC.

Does the PS3 also suffers from hiccups in the scroll as the XBOX 360 does? This one feels like playing the emulated version without syncrefresh.

Are you still given unlimited use of the slo-mo button with no option to disable it? That was my biggest gripe with Dimensions.

Are you thinking of some different game? Cause there isn't a slo-mo button in R-Type original, let alone Dimensions.

I don't remember there being slow-mo on 360. I noticed the trailer is running super slow. I'll test this when I get home.
