THINK YOU CAN BEAT THIS SCORE?

Game #2: Gunbird 2
Am I man enough for the challenge? Stay tuned!
Rolled ESPGaluda after two games I didn't own. (Xiistag and something)

It proceeded to turn into a freaking no-miss on the fast bullets mode.
I wish I could do this when I wanted too, and not just randomly.
I just pressed B once and somehow lived through everything while laughing at the patterns to keep my spirit up (except the final boss one, shit is hard)

After a bunch of games I don't even know, I rolled Touhou 4. I had played it precisely one time years ago, but for some reason I still have the emulator here, so why not.

Touhou Gensoukyou ~ Lotus Land Story - Normal - 36587800 - All

Kind of unexpected, but not much. Thanks, Touhou, for giving out extends like candy.

Funny you should mention that, because that run up above is by best single-credit run of ESPGaluda as well. Except yours is obviously much better!

Salamander - Saturn

Stage 1-5 487,300

Even though we just played this in Wolfman's tournament I've already forgotten it. Managed to crash into a wall in stage one and lose the ripple which drastically reduced the score, but as per the rules I didn't restart and just plugged along. Second death was from a falling rock in stage four that I misjudged and barely clipped me, and finally game over-ed after the stage 5 meteors because I totally forgot about a critical section. I really do need to get the Saturn clear out of the way though.

Got ASO 2. Alphabet Soup: the Shmup. The game didn't even let me see my score so it can't be good.

I'm a fan.

The B items on the ground are 1,000 point bonus items; floating B items are bombs. Not sure what emulator you're using, but if you're interested I can look at my settings and let you know what I've used (I've played in Anex and TI-98).

The two ships on the far right (Jupiter and... Saturn, I think?) are head and shoulders above the others in terms of scoring and survival. There might as well not even be a choice. :P
Good, because I have soo many questions.
I actually ran into your 2-all while digging for the images, didn't notice it was yours though, should've gone back to it and watched before popping my credit. Good stuff.
Ok, so if B is for "Bonus", what about the E? Extend?
And then there's all those small bonuses I don't understand. One occasion I remember is the last section of St1 with the big ships climbing the screen. Sometimes get 5k for destroying them but sometimes not. It seems the one coming from the middle must be destroyed on the upper part of the screen to give 5k, but I'm not sure abut the others nor about other countless times a 5k just popped on my screen.
As for the ships, Mars is the one I best perform with for some reason. Dying with it past stage 1 is not funny, but I find it performs quite wonderfully when fully powered up. Other than that the second player 2 ship and the one you used on your run are quite interesting to play.

Only thing I don't really like about the game so far is that the item collection hitbox seems to be a bit small. I end up grazing a lot of powerups because of that.

I'm playing on Neko Project2/fmgen through WINE. Will try Anex and TI-98 later. I think it's just the clock setting, around 80MHz seems to run smoothly but I think it's slower than it should, around 110~130 it will run a bit faster but with some annoying speed jumps.

And really, if this game is inspired by Raiden, why the hell haven't I played any Raiden yet .

E items give end stage bonuses. 2,000 each, but you lose them when you die.

There are a lot of little bonuses sprinkled throughout the game (which is a big part of why I love it!). I have a run through 2-4 on YouTube that has annotations explaining the ones I've found. There's the ships in stage 1 that you've found, in stage 3 there are enemies that shoot two side pods that give bonuses if you kill the pods before the main body, and so on.

There's secrets I've found that I'm actually not sure how to trigger - an extend in stage 4 that has appeared once (I've tested a couple different theories, but nothing has worked yet), and a bonus on some of the enemies in stage 5 that I can get occasionally but not sure how.

I you have a hard time recovering after dying, I suggest just letting powerups float around if you're at max power. They stick around for 30 seconds or so, and you can usually have 3 or 4 ready to go if you end up eating a bullet.

Gradius 4 (PS2) - 1-3 - 91,700

I've never spent much time with this game. I made it to stage 3 (bubbles) for the first time. What the fuck is that shit? I think I don't really like this particular Gradius. Something just doesn't feel right about it.
