I had to leave soonly this year with BOS, and I know that Prometheus wanted to share a drink after the show
I guess it was fun, will leave a better feedback later...
Sorry for you Eaglet, that the stunfest organisation cańt let us do what we wanted to do on the big stage for your Garegga superplay live
But I am still Happy
Re: Stunfest 2014 : Dates and Japanese guests !
This was an incredibly fun event. Talking to other players and watching people do runs was very cool.

Just got back. Happy porco dio to everyone!

Better people than me (i.e. ICR) will be doing a good writeup so i will just accentuate how much i enjoyed this.
Meeting you guys was awesome. It's weird how such a niche interest can create such brotherly bonds.
All you need is beer and shmups.
Extra big (special) round of applause to adversity1, PROMETHEUS and erhune who literally worked their asses off in making this happen.
YOU
ARE
GREAT

Great video's so far, SPS's strat in Ketsui was unreal like going behind the large plane at the end of stage 3, holy shit. I liked the commentary you did Softdrink, good stuff, are you planning on doing the other replays? Maybe I missed it, but was the Ikaruga doubleplay posted? I couldn't catch that one live.

But there is enough in there for experienced Donpachi players to piece something small together. Plasmo and I noticed a few little things in there that could be of some use.

I'm back, so knacked, and soon straight off to Poland for work, so barely a second for much posting... Once that's done, I'll upload me photos and that, innit? And some more musings.
But the main thing, over all the great games, runs, the atmosphere and energy of the event, it was so great to meet and hang out (and talk so much silly nonsense) with all you guys. Wicked to catch up with old friends and make some wicked new ones!
Can't wait for the next Stunfest, or another event!
CHI, DEL, JWS, EndoKarb, Eaglet, Plasmo, PROMETHEOUS, Icarus, ptoing, nuskool, adversity1, smraedis - bunch of heroes! Those of you that ain't in London - let me know if you're ever visiting!

Re: Stunfest 2014 : Dates and Japanese guests !
Well, I'm back in London, hanging out with CHI. Just saw off Smraedis, spadgy and JWS.
A quick summary of Sunday.
1. Sunday is generally more chilled out, so all of us were milling about, playing games and chatting with each other. Prometheus, adversity1 and Keiko (Erhune's wife), as well as a few of the Stunfest organisers, had posters they were getting all of the STG players to sign. We also ended up signing one of the cabs as well. :>
2. CHI posts up a 35mil RFJ run for fun, I come along and drop a 70mil on it. Stunfest 2013 deja-vu.
3. Plasmo, CHI and adversity1 grill SOF-WTN for Donpachi information, and he was really accommodating. Got some good stuff out of it.
4. I finally got the chance to play Cyvern on a PCB. Love it. (Also took me a couple of attempts to nail the st1 bossmilk again.)
5. DEL, fresh from yesterday's awesome stage performance, gives MMP Manpuku 1.00 a bit of love. (And it hates him back.)
6. Hattori restarts twice, first because there was a contrast problem with the monitor they were using, and again because the joysticks were slipping off the table.
7. SPS had an amazing run on Ketsui, and could have been on for an exceptional score had it not been for awful luck in the second half of Ura. Score was over 500mil though, amazing.
8. Smraedis, the showman. Clearly loved his time on the big stage, and gave the audience some thrills with a great G.Darius run. Bad luck at the end with the miss, only needed one more shield hit to no-miss…
9. … also "hi mum!" at the end got a few chuckles.
10. Eaglet had a really nice Garegga run going. Unlucky game over in st6. Good job, man!
11. Did anyone see KAN's Tetris TGM3 run? Abso-fucking-lutely amazing stuff, GM rank all the way.
12. Our group (iirc: myself, DEL, CHI, Plasmo, Eaglet, endokarb, ptoing, JWS, nuskool, Smraedis, spadgy) head out for a bite to eat and get KAN to join us.
13. While waiting for our food, Eaglet completely devalues a copy of Ketsui PS3 signed by SPS. Cue the sound of sealed games collectors committing mass suicide.
14. Leaving the fast-food place, we bump into SPS. Hey man! Come for a drink!
15. We get Prom and adversity1 to join us for a quick beer. (They leave to take the Japanese players to a new hotel, and to do a bit of business, but will meet up with us after an hour.)
16. Our group split up to chill, dump stuff in rooms, and rest. A smaller group (iirc: original group minus .SM who wanted to rest) head to a nearby bar for a beer outside. We're joined by adversity1 and Prom, and much laughter and good chatting was had by all.
17. Some peeps have to go rest, so after 1am closing, a smaller group (iirc: myself, CHI, Eaglet, nuskool, JWS and endokarb) find a local bar open until 2am and have a couple more beers over much hilarity. Particularly with CHI trolling Eaglet and nuskool in so many hilarous ways.
18. Kick out at 2am, we walk the two who have lengthy walks (Eaglet, endokarb) back to their hotel, and then the rest of us double back through a pretty much deserted Rennes having a laugh and a good reminiscence over the funny stuff that went on over the weekend.
This is obviously just a summary of the stuff I've experienced. There were far more things going on around Stunfest that I missed, such as Cosmo running Castlevania 64, SPS playing PuyoxTetris, and all sorts of cool stuff going around the casual areas. Others who wandered around can probably fill in the blanks. There were also a lot more little things going on that would take too long to write about, such as our many great discussions about games, culture and life over beers and food; JWS and I howling in laughter at CHI's face as he was trying to read the time on my watch; Eaglet and adversity1 reminiscing about their experiences in the… seedier… parts of Japan; CHI pretending to be gay and winding up Eaglet at the bar on Sunday (hilarious); listening to DEL and spadgy go all conspiracy theorist over Friday dinner (also hilarious); Smraedis ordering a pile of assorted meat disguised as a pizza; and many more that will live in the memory.
As for me, I've really enjoyed this year.
Getting to finally meet adversity1 and hear of his experiences was really cool, and such a funny guy, loves having a laugh.
Eaglet, man, you're a blast. Haven't laughed so much in my life, and had some really good chats with you too over games, life and other silly things. We have to meet up in Japan with the guys soon.
Prom, always good to see you again. To a fifth, sixth, seventh etc etc etc meeting!
Erhune and Keiko, too, and thanks for organising the event this year.
All the guys from the French forums that I chatted with: YOM, HUman, Alfarabi, Rechiku, Isobel, Damdam and many more I can't recall at this time.
The many new faces, including JWS and nuskool. Good to put names to faces, and good discussions.
And the guys I've known for ages: DEL, CHI, Plasmo, Smraedis, spadgy - we have to do this again next year. Had such a laugh.
And meeting the Japanese players, who are a really friendly group of guys.
As mentioned in the previous summary, I feel the only blip on this great three-day event was the problems we were having with the shmups demonstrations. While DEL and .SM got to go on the big stage, Plasmo and I could only do our runs on the smaller unstreamed stage (with some technical difficulties), and Eaglet unfortunately couldn't do his run in front of the public at all, which was a shame given how good the run was. A lot of other games scheduled for play were either postponed or cancelled completely. Despite this, I loved going up on stage and doing a live YOLO run in front of people - nothing gets the adrenalin pumping (and nerves going) like turning to acknowledge applause and seeing a standing crowd four or five deep with more sitting down, watching you play. Loved it, would definitely do it again.
Thanks to the organisers for running the show!

He is a really nice guy, I talked to him quite a bit, esp on the last day, but before that as well. Super friendly.
And it was actually me who asked him to join us for food, hehe. I think WTN would have joined too but he had to be elsewhere. WTN also did a run of Tatsujin Oh on request of HUmar I think. I saw quite a bit of it, also quite some credits used, but nontheless very impressive display.
As far as Donpachi goes, he said he had not played it in 2 years really. So the fudged run is totally forgivable seeing as it requires quite a lot of precision to pull the stuff he did off. I am sure if he went for straight survival he would have probably 1LCed it.
And yeah, absolutely awesome event, can't thank the participants and organisers enough. Hope I can make it back next year
