Well, it (the cover) couldn't be any bad than the Pink/Pork combo or even the Wonder Pack, lol. But those are different. And now, the wait beings...

It's consistent and also reminds me of similar bundles. If you were to take a real artfag look at this you can clearly see Fujino is not that way inclined at all - just the way I like.

Also, got this back from my email to the website:
ShootingLove 200X
Sorry, Region is Japan only.

TRIANGLE SERVICE
So you're buying one region-free game and one region-locked. If you haven't bought a J360 yet *now is the time*.

Sorry - just to clarify - 10th Anniversary was always region free, was it?

AmiAmi preorder is up Xbox360 Shooting Club. Collection.
Not that I imagine that there are many takers with a JP-region "Shooting Love, 200X" disc (otherwise you probably already own "Shooting Love, 200X").

Pretty retarded decision. I don't understand the market they think they are peddling to with this quasi-locked release.

AAGHGHAGHAGHAGH don't do this. Do you know gaming culture in Japan? PC gaming doesn't exist. It's not even close to worth their time and effort. Ikaruga got greenlit because of the knob-slobbing treasure fanatics who'll do anything for THE GREATEST SHMUP EVER.
True but less shmups is exactly what we don't need right now.

Most people don't even know or care about who Treasure is. You hate the company, I get that but seriously dude that is just asinine to get shit at people who legitimately like the game and want to support it. If Cave, Konami, or any of these other companies got off their asses and started getting stuff on PS3/Steam, I'd be on there supporting that shit. It's just situation where there simply isn't a lot of shmups available to legally purchase on Steam and Ikaruga is one of the options available. Heck Treasure hasn't even made a new game in 5 years so what's the big deal.

Sine Mora still sold like shit amongst mainstream gamers, was received poorly by shmup fans even after all those glowing paid reviews. Just saying man. Monetary success and critical success aren't always mutually exclusive.

To make a related point to ZaKa-tokyobassist's, I see no point directing hate to a shmup/shmup developer whose games one doesn't like. If shmups that aren't my cup of tea do well, great. More shmups doing well is better for the genre as a whole (creatively/commercially/chance of other releases/communities like this forum), so we all gain. Who cares if Ikaruga isn't my game? If it does well and continually attracts more people and developers to the genre, ace!

Of course, if one or two games get a monopoly on a genre, there can be a stagnating/stifling effect, but I can't imagine there's enough commercially in shmups these days for a situation like with Street Fighter II's impact on the arcade industry way back when.

Critiquing shmups and highlighting when something is bad/not to one's tastes is utterly worthy and can be constructive. Hassling people for liking a shmup, or being down on it's success or potential success seems less constructive.

A final note; trap15; I'm not saying you were doing that, by the way. Just adding my bit to the issues ZaKa-tokyobassist was discussing.

If any half-decent shmup gets released on Steam to be lapped up by a devoted and mainstream audience, bloody great!

Touché!

And perhaps Cave (who's output I adore!) have had that effect a little, for better or for worse!

I'm not the biggest Cave fan but I support them because aside from G.Rev, they are the only ones supporting the genre. As a fan of the genre, I'm obligated to support it and pitch in whenever I can. Hell I've found myself enjoying a few even and being turned on to danmaku because of stuff like Guwange, Ketsui and Mushihimesama Futari being released. It would be nice to see SDOJ on PS3 just to have more to play.

I just want more variety in style of shmups more than anything. If Treasure, Cave, and G. Rev have one thing in common, they always attempt to make new IPs. Aside from Senko no Ronde, Mushihimesama, DoDonpachi, Gunstar Heroes, and Sin & Punishment, none of the other series they've done have had sequels which is pretty damn impressive in this day and age.

Can't blame Cave as they do good work for the most part and they simply developed their own trademark style - it has more to do with some of the following.
If you have a general appreciation for "motorcycles" it is almost impossible to talk to some Harley-Davidson devotees.
While some feel that Triangle Service games are "bland", I feel that they have a refreshing focus on what is essential about the shooting game genre.

Nicely back on topic. I for one feel the same about Triangle service, and am delighted they have the confidence to print out the conpedium release, if even it is a little unexpected in terms of who they are aiming it at.

In the case of video game journalism I don't think we should go near claiming that what those PR guys doing is even remotely similar to the work of, say, music or movie critics. For the very most part they are basically shills, not daring to bite the hand that feeds them. Otherwise I couldn't explain why so many crappy games get "10s" and whatnot.

Regarding STGs I'd say that a "critical success" is a game that has been well-received by the community, not by a bunch of video game journalists who freak out if a game doesn't play itself.

Judging from the design of the aircraft and vehicles on the artwork and poster, it reminds me a lot of Raiden for some reason. Which brings me to my next questions: Do any of you think I would enjoy these games, since I love Raiden so much? Since I have never played any of the Shooting Love games, do they play like Raiden at all?
BTW I am loving that huge black jet that looks like a B-1 Lancer.

They're definitely in the vein of the Raiden games, and Raiden Fighters in particular; I wouldn't say they're as good as any of those games, but they're not bad by any means. I think some of the Triangle crew might have even worked on a Fighters game or two, off the top of my head.

I feel like this release would be a great way to round out my collection of 360 shooting games, but I honestly can't get very excited for it. Never really heard anything but faint praise for Triangle Service's games, and they look kind of shoddy from videos. Looks like lots of downtime in-between shooting, really stark presentation, and very little to get the blood flowing.

Then again, I almost didn't buy Eschatos, and now Qute is one of my favorite devs :\

Too bad that the SL 200X reprint will remain region locked. I assume Fujino can't do anything about it due to Microsoft's regulations.

I think Trizeal comes the closest to delivering the style of game you're looking for. Even if you don't play any other TS games, you should at least give it a chance. I play it on Dreamcast, but it's also on PS2 and 360, and the 360 version (on SL 200X) is allegedly improved.

I'm not sure where you got the "downtime" idea; there's very little of it in TS shooters.

Well, I definitely watched a videp of one of the games on the newer disc, and it seemed really sluggish to start. There were planes onscreen, but they weren't even shooting really, and it didn't seem very action-packed. But maybe that was a bad impression, or maybe I'm not remembering it right.

You probably saw XIIZeal, which has an uneventful and boring first stage, but it's also very short. Trizeal has a lot going on in its first stage, particularly if you trigger the optional midboss fight while trying to maintain a medal chain. DeltaZeal has a comparable start.

To be fair, it's very easy to get that "there's nothing going on onscreen" idea from watching just about any shmup that's more "old school".

The pixel artist for ΔZEAL was the same pixel artist for the Raiden Fighters series.

Part of the reason I'm extra keen on ΔZEAL/DeltaZEAL. As I already own 200X, I think it's time I went for getting a copy of 10th Anniversary.

One of the main reasons for buying it on my part. It is beaut! I would love that poster Pyongers has.

(Funny how some of the things Triangle getting slated for are exactly what I love about them.)

Anyway, Trizeal fucking rules! So there.
