Shooting Love Collection Announced

Post by Bonus! »

I just saw this on the @shmups Twitter feed:
"Shooting Love. Collection" announced. Includes 200X and 10th Anniversary + new soundtrack. 12/19 out.
Here's the link to Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B00G8SULWU

The price tag is quite hefty. Also note that Shooting Love 200x was region-looked, while the 10th anniversary edition is region-free. It would be peculiar if they released a collection in which one of the discs was region-locked.

So if you already have 200x and 10th anniversary, all this offers is a new soundtrack? As much as I want to support Triangle, I don't think I could justify that purchase.

If you have them both already it's not really for you: this is more like the Eschatos/Ginga Force bundle, and I understand quite a few people got into that.

Considering Shooting Love 200X is almost that price by itself I think this is a steal for anyone who doesn't have both already. I'm seriously considering getting it myself even though I already have 10th Anniversary: now that I have a J360 I don't really need to worry about whether I'll be able to run 200X or not, and if 10th maintains it's lack of region-lock I know someone I can give it to for Christmas.

Cave Shooting Collection was that way. I have a feeling that TS will remove the region lock on 200X this time around if they're able to, though. They showed a lot of courtesy to their overseas fans with 10th Anniversary's release...I'd bet they simply weren't aware of us back when 200X came out. We'll just have to ask them again.

Make sure Fujino knows about it! Contact page is at triangleservice.co.jp. I just sent an email but I can't speak Japanese so I had to keep it very simple.

This sounds pretty great. I've been meaning to pick up 10th Anniversary for a while, as I've a soft spot for Triangle service. May as well wait for this to get myself extra OST.

To confirm for clarity, the games in 10th anniversary (DeltaZeal and XIIZeal)...

Delta Zeal is the port of G-Stream G2030.

XIIZeal is the port the Pocket PC version of XII Stag.

Am I right on both counts there?

I think that the big draw of the Eschatos/Ginga Force "Wonderpack" bundle is that the original Eschatos is out of print, and the budget re-release has a rather ugly cover. It may sound odd, but this is what has kept me from ordering Eschatos. Their bundle release is high on my list of games to buy, though. By getting the "Wonderpack" with both games you'll get an appealing cover, and you'll even save money compared to getting both games individually. Shooting Love 200x seems to be out of print, and used copies go for about $50, so the bundle really only makes sense for die-hard collectors or people who were on the fence of buying either of the two games, without owning the other one.

I already have Anniversary, but I'd still buy this for Shooting Love 200X if it is region-free this time around.

*2020, and yes, with slight differences. ST thread has more details on the specifics although it badly needs a rewrite whenever trap15 or myself get the time for it.
spadgy wrote:XIIZeal is the port the Pocket PC version of XII Stag.
It's the original G-Net XII Stag with a name rebrand and slight alterations to sound and warning gfx. Pocket PC might have the same changes, I don't know, but it's *NOT* a Ketsui Death Label to Ketsui Arcade kind of situation.

I'd be interested to know where you found a used copy for $50. My research showed one used copy going for closer to $70AU and new copies going upwards of $90AU *at least*. I use AU values but the exchange rate's close to identical. I checked Amazon, Play-Asia, Amiami and eBay. What did I miss?

Compared to the Amazon site price for this bundle which also leads to approx $90AU my logic still seems right: this is now the best way to get Shooting Love 200X in terms of value (get 200X by itself or for same price get 200X and 10th and new soundtrack CD).

It's been a while since I checked, so prices might have increased. I just had a look at Amazon.co.uk, where the cheapest used copy currently on offer has a asking price of GBP 38.59, that's about USD 60, of course excluding shipping.

I would assume that even just altering the region code would require the effort/cost of generating a new print master (concerning primarily the "paper work & fees"). At that point it would make sense to throw everything onto one single disc to reduce the cost of the print run. The additional rework should be minimal considering that both releases seem to be using the same menu framework.

I'm just surprised that there hasn't been an announcement on triangle service's website yet.

Game release dates are often leaked by a retailer adding a title to their database early. This seems to happen frequently with Amazon or GAME, which is at least an impression I got from skimming NeoGAF every once in a while.

The release date is in 7 weeks - so I wouldn't necessarily call that "early" - unless the release date is simply a place holder (i.e. bogus).
I don't know if the pre-Christmas season has any impact in Japan on how difficult it is to get anything done.

"Early" just meant before the announcement of the publisher in this context. A typical placeholder value is Dec 31, though. It seems that this collection is modelled after the one Qute released, and priced similarly, it seems quite plausible that it is not "fake".

Ah, cheers. Looked again on the US one with the results on your link in mind, and there are some there for quite a cheap grab at $39US. Clearly my Amazonfu wasn't good enough to get any results typing in "Shooting Love 200X used".

As for Triangle Service not announcing the bundle themselves, this is exactly how Shooting Love 10th started, except the leak was in some random YouTube video showing off new game titles. I think this is legit, without a doubt.

I will also drop a mail to them about it been region free or not.
Plus ask if they are thinking about Steam and link to ikaruga that it got greenlit in 12 days. Sure they are much more unknown then treasure but it shouldnt be impossible.

Could it work that triangle release an update/patch so it will be region free ? Anyone got a clue if thats even possible ?

AAGHGHAGHAGHAGH don't do this. Do you know gaming culture in Japan? PC gaming doesn't exist. It's not even close to worth their time and effort. Ikaruga got greenlit because of the knob-slobbing treasure fanatics who'll do anything for THE GREATEST SHMUP EVER.

No, that wouldn't work. I guess Micro$oft could disable region checks via a firmware update, but it's more likely that hell would freeze over.

I would give my right ball if CAVE had the same "knob-slobbing fanatics". But all those fans can do is to get fucking posters into the four digit price territory.

It shouldnt take that much work/time to get both shooting love x360 releases to work on steam. Why not do it ? So it wont sell in Japan but in the rest of the world that use steam it should sell some copys. Im thinking more that it could be some easy extra money for Triangle S. that they hopefully would use in making new games.

PC ports of games developed for console always take more time and budget than people think they do, especially for a micro-sized developer like TS. It just wouldn't be worth it, especially when three of the four full-sized games on both collections can be emulated on PC in some form.

Yeah - quite passably into the 10,000s of $$$ territory (Cave's ports to iOS – more effort needed admittedly - ran into $100,000 territory.
trap15 wrote:Ikaruga got greenlit because of the knob-slobbing treasure fanatics who'll do anything for THE GREATEST SHMUP EVER.
I think in that case it's more that Ikaruga defines the shmup genre for the far wider audience that is mainstream triple-A gamers with a passing interest in cult gaming. Cult gaming that, if they can point to such a title as something they know about and apparently love, showers them a bit of 'proper gamer' credibility.
