Welp, after A.I.'s figure, it was obvious this would happen. Is it just me or are the legs very badly painted?

Thanks for the hardwork. I would love to see more older interviews from the 80s-90s. Current interviews are like a modern loli fest.

bump ~ with a Shinji Hosoe/tatsuya Dragon Spirit interview and some more superplayer interviews, this time concerning a Mushi Futari scoring competition held shortly after the game's release. I have about 6-7 more superplayer interviews to get to, including some Ibara ones that I think I'll do next.

Hosoe love, my deepest thanks for this translation blackoak. Hope you can do more shmup/VGM related translations in the future.
I can link your work on some game music sites if you are ok with it.

Lovely stuff once again Le Oak Noir!

I like this first question from the Arcadia SWY interview:

Arcadia: Please share with us your feelings having achieved this top score in Mushihimesama Futari Ultra mode.

Yusemi: I’m very happy.

Thanks everyone! Its too bad they don't go more in-depth with the Futari questions, though some of the other superplayers interviews I have are longer. Also, a quick correction: the K.K. and Yusemi SWY section led me to believe both SWY and KK had counterstopped Futari, but on further research, I think SWY was just hanging out at the time of the interview. I can't find any explicit reference to his also having counterstopped Ultra, so I've updated the interview accordingly (thanks to Gus for noticing that).

After Uemura's bike accident, now Hosoe's! STG composers lived dangerously in the 80s. Great story about him just composing Dragon Spirit's OST off the cuff, then having it included once the rest of the staff realised what he was up to. That's a hell of a soundtrack to just come out of the blue like that. And he had enough left over for Dragon Saber.

<3 Namiki's citing of Assault's soundtrack, it's special. Stage 3 in particular stands out. With the 360' threat, relentless countdown and physically involving twin stick controls, that rumbling, wailing presence is superbly foreboding. That stage always makes me feel a bit exhausted by the end.

What a great resource. Thanks to the op for sharing it. It's quite difficult to find any information, let alone interviews, featuring my favorite developers. I was surprised that all of them seemed quite candid.

I actually enjoyed the Dragon Quest II interview a lot. I especially liked the tidbit about the picture on the LP; I own it so I jumped up and looked for the screenshot he was talking about. :P I know it's probably not your first priority, but more Dragon Quest interviews would be fantastic. Offhand, I also think it'd be interesting to see if there were any interviews done with the guys behind Robotrek (Slapstick in Japan) or Harvest Moon for the SNES. (just two games I personally have strong connections to, probably wouldn't be of interest to blackoak or anyone else)

I have enjoyed many of these translations. I thought it might be helpful to point out typos to further refine the already high quality of the site. Here is what I have found so far, I hope others will post what they find as well:

From

http://shmuplations.com/cave-facts/

MUSHIHIMESAMA:

"But we didn’t mind: we were in love with this hardware that wouldn’t complain no matter how many bullets we threw at it. "

should be:

"But we didn’t mind: we were so in love with this hardware that we wouldn’t complain no matter how many bullets we threw at it.

PINK SWEETS:

"We were under the pressure because it was our very first title,"

should be:

"We were under pressure because it was our very first title," (delete "the")

DODONPACHI DAIOUJOU (BLACK LABEL):

"Could it be the image of a spirt…?”

should be:

"could it be the image of a spirit…?”

Holy hell man. Just a bit too pedantic don't you think? Here's a better idea, if you want to translate stuff then why not grab an article not featured on the site and submit a translation.

That's not a typo - the programmer is saying they didn't mind the long hours, since they were enjoying the new hardware "that wouldn't complain no matter how many bullets we threw at it." "Complain" here meaning to slow down, crash, et cetera.

Are you talking about the one from Dengeki Online or the one from Shooting Gameside 3?
Dengeki's interview it's more interesting IMO.

bump with Ibara developer & superplayer interviews (and two more non-shmup interviews). There's a little bonus Yagawa interview appended there, too. Took awhile for this update since I've been in the process of moving these past two weeks.

@awo, thanks for the corrections! Probably best to just pm me if you find anything minor like that, but I appreciate it. Few would believe I used to teach English grammar and punctuation...

@KAI, cool, I hadn't seen that interview. Both are good, but since its always easier to translate online sources, I'll start with the dengeki one.

—What are the differences between Ibara, and what did you want to change?

Yagawa: The difficulty. I wanted Pink Sweets to be easier to pick up and play.

Here I guess he's just not considering the late part of the game and the 1CC crowd. Yagawa's principles are solid but he's always left me kinda dumbfounded when talking about his games, saying rank is no issue and so on.

Thanks everyone, glad to see the interviews being enjoyed. After trawling vgmdb liner notes, I've found a couple more untranslated Cave interviews, but Cave is pretty well covered at this point I think. I'm mulling over what to work on next... I have a Dragon Saber interview here which might be a nice follow-up to Dragon Spirit. I'd like to do some of the developers I haven't gotten to yet either, like Milestone, Taito (darius), etc.. then there's these Salamander and Parodius materials from the SS/PSX deluxe packs which are really nice.

Haha, yeah. I also laughed when I read that, but from my limited experience playing Ibara and Pink Sweets, the latter is definitely easier in the beginning.
