Is this a recent mod? I'm sure I've played all the major ones from back in the day, but maybe I missed one. By the way, would you happen to be a member of the pfhorums by any chance?

I don't know about "usually". Deathsmiles, Deathsmiles 2, and SDOJ are all either just as good or better than their older stuff. What else is left after that?

It's actually (one of?) Bungie's first game(s?), Marathon.

The showcased mod is Marathon Phoenix, released somewhere around 2014/2015 (although it was constantly updated since 2007 or so) which IMO blows even the original trilogy out of the water.
I do have a Pfhorums account, but barely use it considering how dead the place is.

Yes, I know what the actual game is. But that's a user-created mod for it, since that map and those weapons aren't in the original games.

Oh I see, never played Phoenix. If it's as good as you say it is, maybe I should give it a shot. I used to post on the pfhorums quite a bit almost 10 years ago. Seems like it's literally dead at the moment.

As much as I can complain about Cave no longer releasing STGs, there are SO MANY SHOOTERS to play already. Just means that the dedicated players will likely die out eventually. Oh well : [

I just have different taste because I don't like the first two at all and think sdoj is good but really don't like the style of the anime in it (not the fact that it has anime, there is a difference!)

I think this news is worth a thread necro. It sort of flew under the radar but Cave themselves have begun steaming STGs every Friday: https://www.twitch.tv/cave_shooters

They even have an employee who speaks English during the streams, just check the VOD for the Mushihimesama stream that just finished: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/247175431

I just saw their latest live stream, was short but amusing. They played Muchi Muchi Pork! and the bilingual dude responded to chat and translated a bit in English.

Apparently the next CAVE Festival/Matsuri will be on April 21, and they'll be streaming from Akihabara (via Nico Nico Douga & Youtube live? not sure).

I'm curious as to what the exclusive merch will be like at the event, especially the arcade stick that Sanwa Denshi tweeted about in honor of the upcoming Ketsui PS4 port.

^Oh snap, CAVE themselves posted those promo images like a week ago! That’s what I get for not having a Twitter account (-_-)

The one with the EVAC fleet on a grid background looks slick, I may just have to save up for one...

Also those artwork overlays will be sold separately too, in case you already own the official Sanwa ”Standard Arcade Stick” (which was used for the GGXrd stick as well).

'yet another' ? There's been only one on PS360 unless you count the DS game, or MAME.
For someone who missed the previous gen consoles it'll certainly be the best choice w/ better quality and reasonable base price.

I like Ketsui a lot, so I'd be somewhat happy to play it on PS4. But I also feel like M2 maybe has... some kind of vision for it? I find it suspect that they're reporting a game that got ported so recently. Yeah, it didn't get the sort of wide circulation I feel like it could get with ShotTriggers, but I feel like M2 has a sort of personal investment in it. At the very least I'm interested in what their arrange mode will be. I could be wrong, but I feel like they have something up their sleeve. Or maybe they just really love Ketsui and want to give it the VIP treatment they think it deserves?

You're not going to see a CAVE game primarily comprised of pixel art remade in HD. You're not going to see a new, original shmup, either. Not unless a metric shitload of money falls out of the sky onto their heads.

Don't forget the PS3 port.

Yeah I'm excited though. M2 is the best, and I rarely power on my PS3 or 360 these days.

But of course there are other Cave and Raizing games that I'd prefer they tackle.

Regarding Cave specifically, I'd be happy if they'd fix up the damn iOS ports that so many of us bought and now can't play.

I'm counting it as one hence the 'PS360', unless the PS3's any different than the 360's?

Dig around the dedicated thread posts of when games came out... there is probably a huge thread, starting before release, for everything from about Mushihime-sama onward.

I have actually gone through those threads multiple times. I used to lurk here back in the days and I was excited for every new Cave release, but never got ahold of the games until much later, and dug up the threads again when getting into the games, and then again I've gone through most of them just around last year.
I love that sense of mystery and excitement around every release of a new solid shooting game, as well as the repulsion when people start noticing Cave moving further and further into the loli territory.
Definitely some of the most interesting content on the forum for better and worse :D
