Re: Special Demos 4: Mushi PS2 Arrange (Smraedis, 1.05bil AL

Post by Smraedis »

There was a video not too long after the PS2 port showing this method on the Final Form, it might have been from sinmoon too, also there is my old video on YouTube showing it too.

Regarding the TLB 2nd Form, I have never seen anyone do it like this before, so I didn't know to do that! Also he even bombs once in that video, and I only bomb once in the second part of that form.

My aim was to get 1 billion, which is what no one in the west had previously done.

Special Demonstrations #5: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou ver1.5! ^_-

After happening across the Twitch channel of Japanese player RSQ - also known by his XBL handle SSERESS … yes, he of Mushi Futari ver1.01 Ultra ALL fame - and chatting with him as I watched him develop his routes in the game, I sent him a message of congratulations when he posted his 140bil ALL to the leaderboards, and asked him on the off-chance he'd be interested in working on an edit for a 150bil+ run in the near-future.

Well, a week after I sent him the message, he replied saying that he had beaten that 140bil score a couple of days after posting it, and he was up for creating a Special Demonstration. Se we set off to work, and I've been working closely with him to develop the replay to his liking, and to format his annotation script to present all of his sizeable knowledge in the game to the masses. SD #5 is the result of a couple of week's worth of work, and we're very pleased with the end result.

He's currently developing revised routes for ver1.5, as well as dabbling in a Very Hard Difficulty ver1.5 A-L run and something for ver1.5 A-EX. I advise anyone interested in watching exceptional play check out his Twitch channel at http://www.twitch.tv/minamin_ch , and if you've got a Twitch account, send him a message of thanks for contributing to the project, let him know you guys appreciate it. ^_-

Undecided what to do for SD #6, but I'll find something…

This was a great run. Thanks again to Icarus for putting this together. RSQ is a beast, and his annotations helped me understand 1.5 a lot.

Just finished watching ep 5, it was really great. I had the luck to watch RSQ on twitch a few times while he was working on this route back before he posted the 140bil score, and it was awe-inspiring. That run was heartbreaking with a death very near the end of stage 5 that I'm sure cost 5-10 bil, so I'm glad that he got a full run in with no unintentional deaths. Stage 5 is so brutal and requires so much precision, I can't imagine playing it at rank 50 all the way through.

Also, from reading the notes I was finally able to understand the bullet-cancel mechanic that triggers in the middle of a hyper. Turns out it happens from filling up the hyper gauge during a hyper, which can only be done by aura damage or picking up a bee (I thought it was just from picking up a bee). That makes the run even more impressive, since there are several recharges where he uses a cancel at the exact right time to get enough items for a large recharge.

At any rate, that video was fantastic, as are the others. Thanks for putting these together, they're really awesome. :)

Answered in strat thread
What's the minimum combo and/or active hyper level required to have bees wipe bullets?
Lowest hyper level I saw it with is Lv 8 at 5:26. (Then, rank is 5 and hyper stock is 0, so it's not those.)
Lowest combo is 4400 hits at 8:37.
And once there, which part of the laser must not touch the bee too much, or at all, so that it will wipe?

Special Demos 6: MushiFutari BL God (NAK, 7.18bil ALL, Reco)

Post by Icarus »

Bet you thought the project was dead!

Happy to announce the release of Special Demonstrations #6: Mushihimesama Futari Black Label! This is a God Mode replay featuring WR holder NAK tearing through the game as Reco, scoring 7.18bil and completing the game. Such an amazing run to watch.

A little story: This replay game to me by way of CHI, who visited Japan in December and bumped into our Stunfest friends while he was there. NAK gave him a DVD with this replay on as a gift, and when CHI told me about it over the phone a few days later, I asked him for a copy of it. A few days later and I end up with the original disc in my mailbox. :3
After watching the replay, I messaged NAK on Facebook to ask if it would be okay for me to edit the replay for the series, and he said he wanted to think about it first. I knew he was busy so I didn't push him about it, and almost forgot about it myself until a fortnight later he messaged me back saying it was all cool and he'd like to do a commentary script for the replay, so we set off to work.

This replay was actually completed a month before Stunfest, but I have been waiting for NAK to wrap up his commentary, which took a lot longer than anticipated because he has study commitments. We just finished it off today, so after a bit of checking, we're happy to release it.

Interestingly, because of his work on the replay, NAK mentioned to me he's going back to the game to try and improve his score, and if he does, he may donate another run to the project. Guess articulating your methods for other people helps you find the holes in your strategy after all. :>

A big shout out goes to CHI for sending the replay my way, to Keiko (Erhune's wife who goes by the screen name Paprika) for helping NAK with the translation of the commentary, and of course, NAK himself for agreeing to donate the replay to the project, and for working with me on the edit.

Enjoy the run! It's pretty badass. :>
(SD#7, 8 and possibly 9 already in the pipeline.)

Astonishing! :o

This is essential a fully fledged God Mode superplay.
Of a near-WR run.
By the World Record holder.
For free.

...

Thanks to you Icarus, and to NAK, and to all the people involved for this amazing video. You don't exactly see stuff like this everyday.

Say, is there any chance to see the original untranslated notes?

Nope, I just have the translated version, in broken English, which I had to rewrite in places. The majority of the original commentary was left intact for the release, though.

Amazing run! He could get nearly 7.5 billion if he finishes with five bombs, so I wonder if that's what he's aiming for next.

Just watched the whole replay and I'm still in shock. The way NAK controls Reco is out of this world. The meaning of "precision" and "style" have been taken to a whole new level. Thanks to all involved on this. An absolute pleasure!!

He tells me he feels he can reach a new score by September. There are a few minor optimisations to make, as well as trying to conserve as much bomb stock as possible, so yes, it's likely that this is his upper target. Hopefully he'll be generous enough to send the replay in my direction if he manages it. :3

Any reason why the SDOJ 1.5 annotations are getting cut off for me? Seems like every one stops mid sentence.

Also, awesome replays! I'm definitely looking forward to watching the God mode replay and getting back into Futari Black when I have some free time.

Youtube recently changed their annotations system and now both fonts don't display at the right size, colours aren't correct, and display box sizes are all messed up - which is why SD#6 has a stretched box for each annotation to fill the available height.
I need to find time to go through the other five to fix them.

Anyway, the intro seems a bit unnecessary, but I guess it isn't one of those pompous overblown intros that you often see. Liking what I've seen so far. Haven't watched the whole thing, and the only Mushihimesama Futari replay I've seen is the famous one of the only clear of the old ultra mode. It'll be interesting to compare the differences.

I was wondering if you could provide the original video file (without the captions) so we can enjoy the run without YouTube's re-compression. This run is fantastic, by the way. 8)

The Special Demos are presented in the style of Cave's superplay DVD, with the annotations and nice presentation. And it's not unusual for people to pay three figure sums for those DVDs.

One friend in our Chinese shmups community showed me the SD#6 and asked for a translated version, so I made one Chinese version of commentary subtitles, think it'd be better to post here first.
