[X68000] Direct-X found!

Post by SuperDeadite »

Finally, after all these years, I have found an original copy of the elusive Direct-X.
Released in 1998 by PYX. This game isn't even 10 mins long, but it's absolutely badass.

Watch the video for everything you'll want to know. 8)

Nice find! Definitely something I'll have to try out. Has a Zed Blade sorta feel about it.

Wow - love the game's style, brings to mind Raycrisis with Batrider explosions and a thumping soundtrack. Level design doesn't play around either, would buy this in a second if it were a PC doujin.

I adore the soundtrack. Right down to the 90s rave chord progression, haha. Great stuff.
Also, did every X68k doujin use those explosion samples? Seriously, I've heard that sound way too much.

It's not nearly as quality as CRS's level design [seriously, the enemy patterns in that game are amazing], but it's pretty nice.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

doh, why did you point this out

there's two versions of it here, wonder if they're just shifting the pitch for the one

I was thinking of Batrider's popcorn / boss part explosion sfx the whole video.

Is this the season of discovering obscure 68K doujin titles, or was there a conference I missed?

EDIT:

Missed this bit the first time 'round. Definitely piques my interest; I love games that don't waste my time. I assume a Sharp emulator is required?

no, the conference was about the upcoming IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME

you can't be insinuating that it isn't always a good time to discover obscure 68k doujin releases

This game, and most of the doujins all use the ZMUSIC sound driver. Hence yeah similar sound effects are to be expected. I am quite amazed how they did the music though.

Pretty nice find. About the only fault I can point out is the bosses tend to overstay their welcome a bit and loop their patterns a few too many times ..

so kickass but why, dear god why only 2 levels? So many long mediocre shmups out there without the quality of this game!
