Yes it does not need a thread but the announcement of a new Egret II is always worth it. Well in my house at least :-)

Which would you guys consider harder: A DDP DOJ 2-all or killing Hibachi (not Zatzusa) in DDP SOJ (on normal, not expert).

I'm assuming that getting a 2-all in the original DDP is easier than either. Unless I'm wrong on that?

Near the end of level 2 in Batsugun, a small red jet comes out of a hangar on the beach, and will fly off down the runway if you don't shoot it down. Is this a cameo? It certainly feels like a cameo.

It somewhat resembles the ship from Raiden, so I'm thinking maybe it's Toaplan poking fun at their competition, but spaceships all kinda look the same to me. Anyone know?

If it's a specific reference to anything I'm unaware of it, all I know is that if you blow it up at a specific point during its launch you get a bonus for it; I'd personally guess it's only made to stand out for that reason, but that's just intuition talking.

I'll try to remember to take a screenshot next time I play, and maybe do a little bit of sleuthing. You're probably right though. I didn't know there was a secret bonus attached to it, but that would explain why it would seem a little conspicuous. I've always either shot it right away or let him escape.

Do any of the different ships in Armed Police Batrider have different hitbox sizes?

So I have been playing a bit of Space Invaders recently and have adopted the counting teqnique to max the bonus ship.
Would this class as a chain mechanic?
I think so, but interested in what you guys think.

Also if it is classed as a chain, would this be the first shmup to have it in place?

You can actually look at the hitboxes if you go into the character test menu. It seems that there are some slight variations in some of the ships. Most seem to be 7x8 pixels though.

I'd say it's solid mid-tier challenge. Incredible game too.

This might be about right for me to try at, then. The 4th stage of Mars Matrix is just a little too hard for me to get past, at the moment, and I'm really liking the gameplay in CRS, especially with a gamepad (as opposed to keyboard).

The game is really brutal on hard though. But yeah on normal it's kind of easy-ish or maybe mid tier for experienced players (at least for clearing it).

Gonna frame em up and do an arcade wall in the new apartment 8)

Don't you consider it broken that some games allow you to keep your score even though you continue? I've seen this in darius burst and even in the metal Slug games. Surely after continuing the score should be reset.

Literally anyone can just credit feed through these games with no incentive to actually 1cc it.

Yeah, this is annoying. I guess it's kind of broken, too. It makes competition surrounding the game pointless. On the other hand, you can still try to 1cc it for a survival challenge.

One thing that annoys me a bit, though not that much, is when games won't save your score after 1 credit, so if you want to use more credits to practice the next stage or whatever, you lose whatever score you had up until that point.
To clarify, say you had a score of 200,000. You have a choice to save that score on the local scoreboard, or else practice the next part, then if you still make a high score, it'll say like stage 1-6 for example, but the high score will be only 2,450 or something.

Oh yes that is very annoying. You'd think they would let you save your score before you continue. Sometimes they don't think things through enough when it comes to competition in arcade games. I guess back in the day it was all about how many coins they could get the gamers to pour into the cabinets.

Here's a question which is probably approppriate for this thread, though I already asked it in another.
What are the actual stage names in Gunbird 2? I know in default order the first three are USA, Italy, and Japan, and the 5th(?) one is the North Pole, right? but what about the rest of them? including the one that's sometimes in the first 3 stages but defaults to 2-1? That one is called "4" in the Dreamcast debug menu.

The first four (random) levels are USA, Italy, Japan and England. The others were called like this in old japanese fansites:

- 空面 = Sky stage
- 北極面 = North pole stage
- 地底面/遺跡面 = Underground stage / Ruins stage
- 神殿面 = Temple Stage

I just tested metal Slug 3. It does, continuing doesn't clear your score. You can effectively rack up a decent score even if you credit feed.

Yeah you're right. The Steam version doesn't though. Maybe some of the other ports don't as well.

Doesn't it add a digit at the end of the score for each continue, though?

Yeah, as do most games which don't reset your score after continuing.
