TRP-STGT Conversation Week 5: Battle Bakraid
Re: TRP-STGT Conversation Week 5: Battle Bakraid
I'm going to host an STGT where we only play the top 5 games from the annual Top 25 List.
People will still bitch.
Wait, did we even have a Top 25 this year?

I really sincerely want to enjoy this game but the more effort I put into scoring the more I want to tear my head off and throw it out my window into the street.
If I had even a 50% success rate on axebeak and could play runs beyond that point it would be considerably more enjoyable.

Truth. Bakraid is brilliant. Perfectly and awesomely playable when you ignore the scoring mechanics, which are incredibly easy to ignore if you aren't privy to them considering the game gives you almost no indication of when chains become active when you play without any codes. It's easy to freely connect and improvise small chains up to x64 once you understand the scoring system. Then when you really get down to trying to scrape out as much as possible it becomes incredibly strict and demanding. Attempting to juggle max medals and maintain a x64 multiplier is pretty fucking mindblowing. It's my favorite game after Batrider, but first in my heart since it was the first PCB I bought. Totally underrated game.hzt wrote:hahahaha suck it, Bakraid is awesome

What's the trick to not having your first bomb destroy the upper battery on the wing? In the replay he just drops it right on top of the wing but it survives and once in a blue moon when I do the same it works out as well, but the vast majority of the time the bomb destroys it and screws everything up.

You have to drop it a little off to the side, and you have to wait a little bit longer than you'd think. Too early, and you destroy the battery. Too late, and you don't deal enough damage.

Bah, StB and DS are excellent. I like them better than a lot of the mainline ones at least.shmuppyLove wrote:I would play this, as long as they were just the mainline STG releases and not any weird shit like StB.SuperSoaker360 wrote:2hu all weeks

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

So, is there any mame build other than shmupmame 3.0 that has NO lag?

This week has been another non-starter, for me. Had a few goes early on, but haven't had a chance to practice beyond that. (I don't suppose you fancy having a week 6, trap? )
Many thanks for hosting this, mate. It's been good fun.

I'm considering a "bonus" week that doesn't factor into the final placement, with a game that's a big change from the other games I've picked. Not sure if I want to do it though.Klatrymadon wrote:(I don't suppose you fancy having a week 6, trap? )

Haha, ace! I was just kidding, but I'd definitely be up for that.
(Are you not too keen, though? I hope this hasn't been a total pain in the arse for you...)

Re: TRP-STGT Conversation Week 5: Battle Bakraid
It's been pretty easy for me, actually. I have a couple Perl scripts that make managing most of this no problem. My main reason for being unsure, is I don't know if people want a bonus week

+1 for a bonus week.
Despite a couple... questionable game choices, I've had a lot of fun with this overall. It would be interesting to see what you'd pick as 'different than what we've done so far.'
Thanks for setting all this up trap!

Jokes aside, I would definitely play something like this. I need an excuse to learn how to score in the Touhou games.SuperSoaker360 wrote:2hu all weeks

D'oh, played a bit of this earlier this week but resolved not to post until I had a decent score. Didn't take into account that I was moving this weekend.
