Sorry, character assassination is kind of low.
If you voluntarily post something on the internet you should be fully prepared for it to be used against you.

VN was obviously rather naive thinking that it was a good idea posting links to her/his deviantart, yes, but that's exactly why it's a bad idea to use the links against her now. We've proven whatever point we had to prove, anything beyond that is rather cruel and pointless.

I know this is awfully hypocritical of me since I was just mocking VN myself but eh. Partly that mocking Vixy at this point is rather low-hanging fruit, partly it's a change of heart after talking to Aliquantic.

Fair enough. I wasn't planning to hound her any more myself after posting that.

A note to Ghegs: I think that some games might have slight variation depending on optical drive consistency, especially if it loads during gameplay. Possibly this is a problem on the Saturn, not sure. Back in the day, I remember that Quake came to a dead halt while restarting an audio track in the current level, although that's a slightly different topic.
RNGmaster wrote:I do think that requesting replays to verify a top 10 score would be a good gesture and something the community could benefit from, though.
I agree with this completely.

Something I should have pointed out long, long ago, if I was smarter:

The gain from going from zip to having some people posting replays is immense, and certain to be mostly positive.

The gain from going from zip to making score submission a chore is uncertain but possibly negative as well as positive.

It's that old "one bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." I think we all realized that the kind of ultra-competitive score mindset some were advocating is not for everybody, and the first focus should be on growing the community, making the Shmups community a "big tent" for all.

So a conservative move to make a little gain is much better than a radical move to get in line with standards, but at the likely cost of some people no longer submitting scores or even potentially leaving the community.
trap15 wrote:So when a project dedicated to accuracy and behaving exactly like a PCB doesn't fulfill said goal, it's a good thing? Maybe I should figure out the cause of the glitching and implement it. Just for you <3

I know exactly what glitches you're talking about, and fixing those glitches is inaccurate and incorrect because that's how the PCB behaves. MAME is not supposed to be different in any way to PCBs; especially in such significant ways.
The most famous examples of this (because more people are familiar with them, at least) are original code bugs in games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong that stop play. Some people might like to be able to play Donkey Kong endlessly, but it seems to be more entertaining (and skillful) for people to try to reach the theoretical maximum.

Best idea: stop being a bunch of dickfaced morons who can't shut up and just play the games. There's a reason this forum has a reputation for being shit.

I kinda hope she posts more shmup videos on her channel, given that she's gotten like 50k views + on some of them.

Image, hey, lets start the bandwagon, lol. Anyways, I can do better than that, I can favor V.N. either in a good/bad way. One, she did fine with Mushi-2, the bad with Strania, ugh, she had a hard time not knowing how to play it right when we were in co-op, needs more practice... ~_~

Also Vixy, Y U NO Reply back, lol. ლ(ಠ益ಠლ

More people seem to be entering STGT and somehow not always the same people return. Looking at scoreboards from this years tournament from the first shows a lot of turnover. Assuming STGT lasts another 5 to 6 years a significant chunk of players will be missing anyway.

Getting back to the verification issue: Just put links to whatever proof you got right there in the highscore lists, then you can disregard all the entries you don't trust by just a glance.

As for save state practice: There's practice modes in many ports, so it's a feature devs usually think should be in the players hands when an arcade business model isn't in the equation. It's only during the time limited STGT that you can really baw about people improving at a faster rate than you are, or you could, you know... spend a week trying to practice as effectively as you possibly can.

I have a much better idea:

Everyone who demonstrates strong asperger's/autistic tendencies (relative to forum average) = BANNED
Everyone who consistently (and aggressively) places their personal feelings over reason/facts = BANNED

If you kick out all the spergs and autists, then there will be no one left to play the games! Most of these games are all about sperging out  (efb)

I agree with that second one though, that's often what makes threads fall into shit.

I can't even imagine how many people you would ban just because you THINK they fall into that category. What a terrible place you'd make this become !
