Not too surprised at this, since Little Witch Academia did actually get it's own free shmup that released on PS4. It's mostly just a promotional thing for the new season of the anime a few years ago, but it has a few basic and repetitive stages mixed with some super sentai robot battles in first person. I would've much rather seen them release this Cotton-like shmup as an actual game instead, but of course, budget and several other factors have to come together for that.

In episode 6 of the TV series "City Hunter 3" (late 1980s), the bottle says "Proco Tiat" on it, which is Taito Corp backwards, and is also a reference to Darius.

I've spotted a whole shmup sequence in the episode 2, somewhere around 11:20. I'll try capturing it later

Throughout this thread, I've noticed that Space Invaders has the most amount of references in anime by far.
