Re: Shmup parodies on anime series
Opening to High Score Girl features more game footage, but I saw footage of Pulstar at one point.

Episode 34 of the 1990 Tatsunoko anime "Ninja Kyatto Teyandee", also known outside of Japan as "Samurai Pizza Cats"
In the upper left hand corner of the screen, there's a picture of the Vic Viper from Gradius and Tako from Parodius Da!

Second ending of the anime romantic drama series Sing Yesterday for Me is a shmup for some reason.

Not sure if this counts as a shmup, but this ending of Fire Force Season 2 felt like one to me.

I'm sorry for the offtop: neither I was able to locate the source, nor it is directly connected with shmups per se.
But since our hobby involves dealing with PCBs and modding I couldn't resist an urge of posting it here

Nickelodeon's Glitch Techs episode 10 (or season 2 episode 1) uses our genre as an expletive:
I had to watch the scene 3 times and eventually turned on Closed Captions to confirm that Miko did, in fact, say shmup.

Re: Shmup parodies on anime series
Not too surprised at this, since Little Witch Academia did actually get it's own free shmup that released on PS4. It's mostly just a promotional thing for the new season of the anime a few years ago, but it has a few basic and repetitive stages mixed with some super sentai robot battles in first person. I would've much rather seen them release this Cotton-like shmup as an actual game instead, but of course, budget and several other factors have to come together for that.KAI wrote:From Little Witch Academia 2

Re: Shmup parodies on anime series
I've spotted a whole shmup sequence in the episode 2, somewhere around 11:20. I'll try capturing it laterMaster O wrote:Sorry for the double post, and while this isn't a parody, it's kinda interesting to see it there:

In episode 6 of the TV series "City Hunter 3" (late 1980s), the bottle says "Proco Tiat" on it, which is Taito Corp backwards, and is also a reference to Darius.

Episode 111 from the second Lupin the Third TV Series (1979)
Lupin and company try to play Space Invaders in order to open the safe.
Throughout this thread, I've noticed that Space Invaders has the most amount of references in anime by far.
Re: Shmup parodies on anime series
There's one in the newest episode of When Will Ayumu Make His Move? It kinda plays like Xevious, Raiden, or Terra Cresta.

In the new 2022 reboot of the Urusei Yatsura TV Series, there's a Space Invaders reference:

Funny that the company that made Space Invaders also made a game based on that very series.Master O wrote:
