About the same as Mushi. Technically, it's late, which is worisome. Mushi came out in October/November, and was announced the following April, an was out by July, IIRC. Mushi was out in June, and released by the following March. Galuda II has been out 7 months, and we've yet to hear a port announcement.

FYI, I picked up an extra DVD from Play Asia, and checked it out. Everything seems to be identical to the one sold by Cave. No evidence of "reprint" or anything like that.
Jesus GP, you must have one of every single fucking piece of Espgaluda merchandise on the planet, and now you've started buying seconds. You know there's poor kids in Africa that can't afford a single Galuda II DVD--let alone two. (I'll pass your extra copy on to them if you'd like.)

On the subject of the port, there's nothing to worry about. I mean for christsake people didn't think we'd get an Ibara port, and that was their least successful arcade game maybe ever.

Espgaluda II is very popular. We'll get a port and LEs and figurines and all that crap.

I think he bought it so he can sell it for 20000 yen on YJA :P At least that's what I'd do...

Nah, not going to scalp it. I picked it up figuring either someone down the road here, or some of the handful of Japanese people I know wouldn't be able to get one...even from PA, as they have no Paypal or CC.

And I have doubles of other items though... many pieces of kits that I couldn't help, as people won't sell them as singles.

I see P-A.com is now sold out of the ESPgaluda 2 dvd. I doubt they'll get any more. So if you didn't order one, you're out of luck.

After waiting for a while, my Espgaluda 2 DVD came in today. Like the packaging - almost VHS-sized 3DVD case - and the guide book has a nice selection of illustrations, concept artwork and maps in it, as well as the epilogue images which is nice to see.

Replays are of typically high standard regarding the players - Clover-TAC and GFA2-ISO - and the replay video quality is excellent. Interesting to see the players use tactical suicides for both rank and scoring purposes.

Not a bad bundle. Hope the OST and port are being considered, I'm itching to play it now.

OST is coming 7/26, the port is still unknown (which is rather worrisome at this point). Perhaps it will arrive in November on the 1 year anniversary of the game's arcade release. Who knows.

Thanks for the heads up!

Yes, it's worrying to not hear of a port being considered, especially since Mushi and Ibara were announced somewhat early. Hopefully one will come, time will tell.

But from who though? ^_-

I bet they're holding out for the PS3 ;-)

I keep checking play-asia every week, just in case they accidently announce something again.

I was thinking it might be on the PS3 myself, actually. Wouldn't that be funny if it's a PS3 launch title this November? Then again, by then it would cost more for a PS3 and the game than to just buy the PCB.

Anyway, odds are it'll be PS2, as that's probably the most cost effective route.

More like quality issues. Bring back Arika goddamnit!

I hope they aren't planning for PS3, I don't want everything rendered in super-realistic-o-vision. I'm not paying the price for the console just for one game, either.

The advantage of a PS3 (or X360, for that matter) port, I would surmise, would be that Cave could just code an emulator for the system rather than porting it, and then quickly (and accurately) make PS3 versions of Galuda 2, Pink Sweets, and hopefully the rumored Mushi 2. I'd think the PS3 and X360 would have enough power for an SH3 emu.

But maybe Sony will outright ban all 2D games on the PS3? In any case, I just hope we get good ports on some system (and personally, I'll buy whatever system that is). Would be a shame for Cave's games to remain pcb-only from now on.

By the time the PS3 comes out, the PCB will likely cost less than a PS3.

I think it's just for scoring. Shin Seseri offers quite a lot of points, but it's 1) Easier to get more points on normal seseri. 2) By dying on stage 4 (at least in the Tateha reply) there's an added Zesshikai opportunity.

I'd be surprised if it got ported to the PS3. Sony are requiring that all PS3 games be released on Blu-Ray, the manufacturing cost for which is currently higher than for CD or DVD. When you consider the tiny amount of space that a shmup needs compared to the 54Gb Blu-Ray has, any sane publisher would not needlessly cut into their profit margin. The only counter-argument I can think of would be that they could risk upping the retail price to match the other next gen games. I recall a Sony exec saying that PS3 games might retail for anything from $60-$100 in the US, so who knows what the Japanese retail prices will be?.

? The Tateha player suicides on Shin Seseri. It's the only death in the run.

Do any of the other players intentionally suicide elsewhere? I can't remember. I thought all the other deaths were messups, but I'll admit to letting my attention wander a bit.

I was just about to remark, TAC dies during the second form of Shin Seseri, and does it on purpose to refill his Guard Barrier and get some kakusei gems to use in an attack. ^_-

As for Ageha, it definitely looked like an accident, I don't think the player meant to die so early in the run (st3 or 4 if I recall, against a midboss). Not entirely sure about Asagi, as I skimmed over the run a bit, the death was fairly early and could have been done on purpose - although Asagi would probably have an easier time against Shin Seseri than Ageha or Tateha would have.

I swear when the Ageha player dies during that midboss fight, he does the 'wtf? damnit!' standing still for a few seconds after.

Sorry, got Tateha and Asagi messed up.

-I think the Ageha death was an accident, but he was going to die on stage 4 anyway (just speculation).
-I'd have to pop them both back in, but I'm pretty sure Ageha and Tateha deaths are both suicides to get more gems.

I'm not wanting to see it go to PS3 either, especially given that PS3 is backward compatible and should be able to play a PS2 version. It is a little troubling that jack shit has been said about a port. Hopefully Arika has got a secret. ;)

Weren't the conversion times on the ports of ESPGaluda (6-17-04) and especially DDP Dai-ou-jou (4-10-03) somewhat longer than the ones for Ibara and Mushihime?

No damn way. Having the system be $600 in a reasonable configuration is bad enough. If games go to $100, that'll be worse than N64 was. Sony just may end up making the PS3 so niche it becomes the next Neo-Geo AES.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I'm REALLY hoping this doesn't go to PS3. It would make a lot more sense to put this on PS2 which already has an enormous user base and would be a ton cheaper to make.

I'll be really dissappointed if this doesn't get a PS2 port. I absolutely love the first one, and I'd be pretty upset if I didn't get a chance to fall in love with Espgaluda 2.

More details on the upcoming ESPGaluda II soundtrack.
Link

Orders start on 07.26. The good news is, they're only limiting the orders to 5 per order. I assume that means a better print run than the DVD.

Sony isn't going to let a 2D game come to PS3. Remember what their stance is, they want "visually appealing and 3D games on their pricey, new, black, and shiny machine".

Also remember that SCEA and SCEJ have different policies about 2D when it comes to PS2, might be the same for PS3.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

That's the question right now. They say that other than the vibration features, that it will be "fully backwards compatible w/ PS & PS2 games". Of course, if it filters the graphics, it will be useless for 2D games (and not fully backward compatible, although their argument is "it doesn't affect gameplay"... kind of like dead pixels.

The scary part is that I recently read that it will definitely make at least 3D games possible to play in progressive mode. That doesn't exactly sound good for progressive low-res games.
