How did Touhou 12 win out even over the other Touhou games in the series?

Because it's fucking awesome.

Personally I voted it for its difficulty (even on normal it's a good challenge), cool scoring system and great, original boss patterns. People that bash Touhou because they generally are easy on "default" settings should try it.

I've only played a few of these but interesting list all the same. Crimson Clover is my favourite and liked Perfect Cherry Blossom and Blue Wish Resurrection.

Just realised that Samidare came way way ahead of RefleX but can't think why.
They're both great games but RefleX is a lot slicker.

Yeah that surprised me as well. Touhou fans are more likely to have been exposed to Samidare than RefleX, since it's kinda/sorta a Seihou game. RefleX and Alltynex 2nd both made the top 20 mentions list, though, so I'm guessing it's a matter of Siter Skain fans wanting to mention all three, but wanting to put more votes towards Kamui. That's what I personally did, anyway.

I've been playing some Samidare, though, and it really is pretty amazing.

Wow I must be some kind of crazy Touhou outlier or something because I own a lot of the games on CD and I don't own any creepy sex merchandise of the series.

Gratz to Crimson Clover though, it's a super fun game although I am a little disappointed that there is no Air Rade Air on the list.
