Hello, fellow shmup fans! I'm "Jade Lingo," a huge fan of scrolling shooters and foreign languages. I volunteered to translate Japanese cards from Bandai's Battle Spirits trading card game ever since it's discontinuation in America (over 1,600 cards complete and counting...), and now I would like to assist you guys. I just recently tackled the "Liner Notes" for Akashicverse: Malicious Wake's soundtrack just for fun a few days ago, but for some reason, the post didn't show up... (I wanted to edit the post to make it look presentable). In any case, if there are any requests for translating something from a game you like from Japanese, feel free to ring me up! :)

Hey there. New here to the forums and I figured I'd grow a pair and sign up with the forums and let myself be known ( or try to ). I've been into shoot em ups since around oh say, 2008 I guess? Although I've always had a thing for shooters since my early teens, just never realized it then. Anyway, hope to get along with y'all.

Hi everyone!

Finally decided to stop lurking and make a presence on here. I'm an longtime gamer who used to work in arcades back in the SF Bay Area during the 90's as well as game test during the early 00's. I'm now in NYC and just got back from a fantastic 3 week trip to Tokyo. Spent tons of time in Akihabara and came back with 2x suitcases full of Saturn/DC/Playstation goodies! That being said, the arcade scene really inspired me to go all out this year and finally hunt out a candy cab (which has been a long time dream of mine). Excited to learn more + meet like-minded folks!

Hi my names Travis just wanted to drop and introduction. I've recently gotten back into shmups after a long WoW induced hiatus and discovered these forums. Looks like a great resource for discovering some future titles to play!

(mod edit - merged post into self-introduction thread)

Getting into shmups a bit more now so I wanted to introduce myself here too. Did a cab build last fall http://www.ukvac.com/forum/neo-geo-mvs- ... 36447.html and have been mostly into arcade shoot 'em ups since I bought Sengoku Blade. Others I have are Blazing Star, Andro Dunos, Aero Fighters 2 and my now favourite Progear (+a whole lot on consoles). Hoping to get my hands on many more this and the coming years. Also planning on getting a vert candy cab sometime soon. Thanks for reading!

Hi,
My name is Yves, I'm a 33 years old french 2D game enthusiast since a pretty long time. Shooting games have my preference.
I've been playing and collecting games on various consoles from the Famicom to the Dreamcast, almost exclusively in japanese.
After Years being discovering gems that were only released on Arcade (thanks to emulation) I finally bought my first Supergun and a couple of games last week (particularly Dimahoo).

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself. Just getting into SHMUPS after a long time of kinda ignoring them on my Turbografx and Genesis. Lot of great stuff out there, and now that I have a Duo and can play SCD games I figured now would be a great time. Now to figure out the best SHMUPS I can get for the best price.

Hi there!
I'm dink (d.erek ink.sley/34) from Detroit. I've been hooked on these games ever since I played Sky Shark sometime in late 1987 in a dusty back-room of a bar named Huddles in a little redneck town called Almont which is about a 45 minute drive north of Detroit. I wasn't old enough to go into the bar, but they'd let us kids play the games in the so-called game-room of the bar @ the back entrance. :)
I went on a search for more shooters at the time to play @ home, and came up with Bomber Raid for the SMS and a nice new copy of Skyshark for the C64 (remember Babbages?). As the 16bit era came about, I really couldn't get into the newer types of games, especially games where one can get lost, so I sorta put my gaming habits on hold until 2011 when I discovered the greatness of emulators. I could bable on forever, so to make a long story short, heres some of the things that I play now a'days:

C64: Sky Shark, X-Out, Metal Dust, Gyruss, Mr. Heli, Blood Money
MSX: Zanac, Aleste, Astro Monsters, Mecha 8, Pleasure Hearts, Anaconda, Manbow 2, Twinbee, Gradius, Salamander
PC Engine: Raiden / Super Raiden, Psychic Storm, Sylphia, Daisenpu, Final Soldier, Tiger Heli
MegaDrive: Robo Aleste, Musha Aleste, Koutetsu Teikoku

My weapon of choice is the wireless Sony Dualshock 3 controller, using the Scarlet.Crush DS3 driver for the PC. A few months ago my Dreamgear Shadow 6 usb gamepad wore out completely, a good friend of mine told me how the Sony PS3 gamepads never ware out and went on about how great they are "if only they can be used on the PC..". I did a little research, bought the gamepad & a bluetooth dongle/installed the drivers, and it works! The d-pad never hurts my thumb after super-long game sessions, like the other gamepads did. My buddy was right about its greatness. hehe..

well, thats it for now,
best regards,
- dink

Hello there, I'm Garo and I come from Poland. the most generic introduction in the world done, time for details

I played quite a bit of shmups (that does not mean I am peculiarly good in playing them, just for the enjoyment), but I play Fraxy the most. Sort of like fiddling around to make cool looking stuff to please the eye. I also write music as a hobby, usually to follow up on whatever thing I worked on Fraxy.

I registered much, much earlier before I decided to post here today, but I forgot about this site for a little bit. So here I am, nice to meet'cha.

Hello! Decided to stop lurking & post something.

I've been into arcades & 'retro' gaming for years (SNES, Saturn, Dreamcast particularly) but have been getting into STGs a lot in the last few months. Now trying to get more involved and currently working on my first 1CC (Batsugun Special, Saturn port) - figured it was a good place to start! Getting as far as stage 4 boss currently, but working on it...

Noticed there's some regular shmup meets in London but don't see anything happening in Scotland! There's a good fighting scene up here but little shooting, or so it seems.

Just joined today..

I'm Serious.

I mostly play older 8-bit systems and arcade games. I have an extensive collection of Atari 2600 boxed games, but I play other systems as well.

My favorite arcade game is Sinistar, though I love Williams arcade games in general (Defender, Robotron 2084, etc).

Some shooters I've been playing lately are Delta on C64 and A.E. on Atari 400/800, mostly in keeping with the current HSC games on Lemon64 and AtariAge, respectively.

I love Gyruss on C64. I need to play it more.

I'm only familiar with the Amiga version of Blood Money, but I've actually been planning to check out the C64 version of it soon.

Hello All! My name is Keith (age 30) and i finally decided to rejoin the forums here since i never bothered to reinstate myself after the servers here crashed a couple years back and just decided to lurk instead . I am no stranger to shmups and long time enthusiast since my first encounter with Sky Soldiers when I was 6 years old in an arcade the size of a walk in closet at a restaurant long since closed for health reasons. Im based up here in the midwest usa and with life accelerating at a pretty great pace since my last days here I finally find myself with the security and freedom in life to pursue my hobbies and interests with some new skills acquired as well.

Be on the lookout as I will be frequenting the trading and hardware forums as ive taken up being a videophile thanks to "Fudoh" and also have acquired soldering skills thanks to the need to have everything pretty in the 21'st century. I hope to be of service in the community and glad to be back.

Dang I didn't see this thread.

My name is Schuyler. I'm from Oklahoma city. Been gaming since 1988. Just got married. Trying to keep my gaming hobby afloat while working and being a good husband. I really got into shmups this past year. I guess I find them to be unique and an untouched category that isn't filled with junk like fps or rpg's.

They sort of resemble the artistic and creative aspect of video games which I still look for. If someone looks at Ikaruga and doesn't see art then they don't have good eyes.

I guess I should post first here.

Hey there,

My name is Neptas, I'm a 22 years old French now living in the region of Quebec (great place, not-so-great winter...). I've almost always put great interest in Shmups (not really sure why I actually never joined any forum or something till now, maybe too shy, whatever), since I was sitting in front of a video game for the first time (I was 3 y.o., it was Granada on MegaDrive, will never forget that game <3).

My most favorites Shmups are the Dodonpachi serie (I'm currently a lot on DDP itself, trying to go over 100M (That's a lot of parenthesis now, I should stop)), Ikaruga, Gradius V, R-Type Delta and Final, and of course Granada (if you can consider it is a shmup, I heard many people saying the opposite). I'm writing this message a bit in a hurry, I probably forget tons of other very good ones.

Other than Shmup, I'm interested in pretty much any kind of competitive video game, specially FPS.

Other than video games, I'm an university student in Computer Science with Game Design option (oh wait... it's still video games...).

See you around!

PS: Speaking of Granada, I tried to speed-run it -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebEvS-GlnYc (easy mode, 6 life, in 13:44 ingame time)
- This is only a first attempt, and unfortunally, with university and heavy work, can't do much for now (I think I can do < 13 minutes easily with a bit of work, stage 6 and 9 could be improved hugely).

PPS: I'm actually not really fan of forums, so if you ever want to talk with me, I encourage you to add me on Skype (Name is Neptas) or something like that.

welcome to the forum neptas, it is understandable that you don't like forums, but I encourage you to hang around for a bit. There are a lot of cool people (and a lot a jerks), but I've learned a ton about video games and technology from these guys, and hopefully you can too :)

...and yeah, canadian winters .___.

Hey everyone, super lurker here. Been reading the forums for a while now and decided to register. I am a big fan of the hardware sub-forum. My gaming as of recent has been mostly retro stuff. Currently playing a variety of shmups on the Saturn! :D
