The Self-Introduction Thread
Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Hey guys, I'm another lurker - barely post, don't think I ever introduced myself - but love all the info on here.
I'm from Toronto, 35 years old, indie filmmaker. First shooter was Lifeforce for NES. This forum fueled my desire to get back into it, and since joining (2010ish?) I'm addicted to the rush of beating impossible odds. I've collected a few of my favs - all console. Hope for PCB if I can ever afford to get the games I like! Brave Blade will have to wait.
Currently am consumed by Ketsui, though am pretty terrible at it, haven't plateaued yet. I love all kinds of shooters - ranging from really technical (garegga) pure adrenaline (cave) and tend to also like games for the atmosphere (gradius v, r-type series). Right now, I'd say my fav is Under Defeat, tho I never expected to like it so much, after trying it on DC many years ago, finally grabbing it for PS3 I was converted.
Non shooter addiction: Monster hunter 3 Ultimate - I think it takes a shmupper's compulsion to conquer, and highly recommend it for those looking for another outlet.

welcome to the forum I'd suggest you stay away from the pcbs... one day, you're buying your first pcb, then before you know it, you're turning tricks just to save up for an ibara move strip.near_miss wrote:Hey guys, I'm another lurker - barely post, don't think I ever introduced myself - but love all the info on here.

Hey all, i'm 26, from Wisconsin, and I don't think the temperature here is ever going to ever get above 0F again. Since i'm going to live the rest of my life in my house, I need to talk shmups. Because I need to be angry at something, and no one will walk out in the cold to come over to my house to beat me at other types of video games.
The only games i'm good at are 1943 Kai and Super C, and you may be the only people who care about that.

Hey everybody Been linked to this site quite a couple of times through looking for pvms and CRT set ups over the years.
I'm a 23 year old part time sales assistant who spends far to much money on shummps.
Thunder force 3 and gynoug were the shooting games that Introduced me to the genre as a kid
I absolutely love some of the tate set ups and all the great info here. Thanks !

Hi everybody, I'm Ryan.
And I like shmups, my current "shmup goal" is to 1cc neo xyx on the dreamcast. It might take me a while, because I'm pretty ass at the game. But hey nothing worth doing is easy, right?
Anyways I'm glad to join the community. Cheers!

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Hey guys. I recently discovered that I quite like blowing things up, big ass explosions, and collecting shiny things. My intro to shmups was through the Dreamcast homebrew community, and the first game to get me into shmups was Sturmwind (though I used to play tons of Galaga when I was little, on the GBA). I did 1cc the arcade mode of Sturmwind, but I wanted to accomplish something a bit more impressive before joining the forum, which I did earlier today

BTW, does anyone know what the rules / etiquette of resurrecting high score threads is? Because that would just barely qualify for the lowest spot on the Mars Matrix one.

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Hi guys, I've been lurking for a little while now. I've recently been getting into shmups, racing, and old arcade titles because I'm a bit disillusioned with much of the current gaming climate. I'm currently practicing In The Hunt and Sky Kid, also Pac-Man which I'm getting worse at the more I practice.

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Hi all. Thought I'd make an account on here after lurking for ages.
I've loved shmups for as long as I can remember, though I've never been particularly good at them.
Hopefully I can absorb some bullet dodging wisdom through osmosis or something.

Hi, names Kyle (but you can call me Boris). I've been lurking here for a little while. Been gaming all my life, been getting more and more into shooters over the last couple years and so thought I'd make an account. I'm fairly balls at shooters but I think I'm getting better and better.
Beyond shooters, I love Metroidvanias (mostly Metroids though), FPS (on PC), and JRPGs (played a TON, finished a few).
Favorite shmup devs are Treasure, Konami, Takumi, and Raizing.
Also, wayyyy into music (Boris is probably my favorite band, if it's not obvious)

Hi everyone, here's Wombat long time arcade enthousiast! Recently I finally managed to get ahold of one of my most beloved games from my younger years in PCB form; TRUXTON . So with my NAC being in TATE for the first time, I thought it was a good time to join this board of fellow shmup enthousiasts.
Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Welcome Wombat! You are well ahead of the game with NAC and Truxton PCB.

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
...so, I made a profile ages ago, but never got around to actually posting something
I'm a complete noob when it comes to shmups, but I do love them so. I've got an Egret II and a puny collection of PCBs. Only two shmups, DonPachi and DoDonPachi.
Loved those two (although I sucked at playing them.. and still do) back when I only had a Sega Saturn. They were on the top of my list, when collecting real arcade hardware became a reality.
Also a big fan of Sega Megadrive. Games like Thunder Force IV and M.U.S.H.A. paint a really good picture of what 16-bit Sega is all about
Besides that, I'm just a nerdy guy with a deep love for (old) electronics and video games. Spending most of my time poking around with my soldering iron in inappropriate places.

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Hi there everyone,
I've been signed up on the forum for a year, but have only really lurked. I'm arcade enthusiast first and foremost, but that hobby has gradually led me to become more and more interested in shmups. Most recently I've started to finally understand and appreciate the danmaku genre which has caused me to come here much more often, in so much that I feel it's time to actively participate on these great forums. Apologies in advance for any noob posts/comments I may make.

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Greetings all!
My fake name is nekketsu, from the frozen wastelands of Ottawa, Canada. I'm a very immature 30 and love the pew-pew games. My first experience was Star Force on NES. I grew up enjoying (but sucking at) shmups, and only gained a serious interest in the last year or two. I think it's mostly the watered-down hand-holding of modern console games that made me miss an actual challenge.
I'd eventually like to collect my favourite PCB's, but for now the wallet says MAME/console is the way to go. I'm more of a 1CC player right now, I expect to graduate up to scoring in the future. My favourite devs would include Raizing, Toaplan, Raizing, 8ing, and Raizing respectfully. I love the old-school and also enjoy danmakus. Fast and furious is my preferred speed.
Can't stop this fever!!
