Hi, I've been lurking since just before the Radio Allergy cancellation, but I only recently signed up.

I played a lot of Space Invaders, Silk Worm, Galaga, Sky Shark, Xevious, and 1942 back in the old days, but the SNES turned me off to shmups with the slowdown in Gradius III and Super R-Type. Around that time I also got this idea that "only RPGs are worth buying because they are longer" even though Contra III was my favorite game... Go figure.

Whatever my thinking, it was early 2007 that got me to play shmups again. I took Super R-Type off the shelf and figured, "Hey, I'll give this another shot". I was suddenly hooked after fifteen years of thinking the game was a useless piece of garbage.

Since then, I've been buying and trying a lot of different shooters. DonPachi is my current favorite. I own ESPGaluda and DoDonPachi Daioujou for PS2, but my import enabler has not yet arrived so they are sitting on a shelf. Frustrating.

In the future, I hope to get something like an Egret 2 and some PCBs, but I need a house first.

Okay, I'll stop talking about myself now. Bye!

I've posted a bunch already in the other threads, but here's a bit about me:
I'm a marketing director for a bike company based in the Chicago suburbs and was a freelance writer in Chicago for the better part of three years before that.
I'm into hip-hop in a big way, especially old school stuff. I also collect sneakers, but I am trimming down the collection to fund my new pcb-buying habit!
I own an Astro City (purchased from Matsu) and Espgaluda and Strikers 1945.
I like coffee an awful lot and the color blue.

I'm Will, I've been playing shmups in a casual way since SWIV and the like, but I really got into after the UK release of Psyvariar. I've been a heavy gamer since about 1991-ish I guess. I work full time as a freelance video game journalist in the UK for the national papers, print mags and onlines. I also sort of collected sneakers (see above) in that I get through a lot skateboarding, but have toned that down for PCBs. I'm a massive comic fan (war comics/cowboy stuff/Garth Ennis), and have hundreds of vinyl (mainly old school hardcore punk/thrash, old school hip hop, old skool hardcore, jungle and breakcore stuff). I skateboard a lot, I guess.

I should play more shmups than spend time talking about them...

Good seeing you again and glad you're posting here, Soren. I miss trolling NSider ;___;

Also, I like coffee but prefer it iced and all colors are equally wonderful.

Hello all. ^_^ Just thought I'd introduce myself since I just joined up.

Relatively new to shmups on the whole, having dabbled with only a few in the past. Never really interested me too much, I'll admit. A few years back I bought ESPGaluda and D O J in the hope of flaring up some enthusiasm. Me being an utterly lazy bastard meant D O J stayed largely unplayed, while ESPGaluda never got a look in. I know, I know.... I'm a fool.

So anyways, along comes the new year, and with it resolutions. Having been pestered by a forumite here for a fair few months, I decided to dedicate more time to the genre and am currently getting skool'd on the above games. I swiftly went to my trusty steed and only real friend (the internetz) for advice and tips. Figured joining up would gear me towards more games and build up my enthusiasm, so here I am.

A little of the personal:

22, male, live in sunny Wales, too many boring interests, not enough time, dabbling in alcoholism.

greets!

Finally signed up for a membership over here after checking it out for some time. Frequently haunt neo-geo and killercabs so decided I might as well throw in all the chips and sign away the house.

just kidding.

Been playing games since I was a youth and have been collecting cabinets and arcade gear for a few years now. Have mostly been (and still am) a huge street fighter/capcom dork but have recently been spreading my wings a little more and buying more then just fighting PCBs, hence the pilgrimage to mecca.

I have had and sold (to buy new/more gear) close to 15 cabinets or so and
currently have in the lineup a tri-synced Capcom Impress, Konami Windy 1 and Taito Egret 2. Love em all.

No one reads these anyways do they? I'll stop writing now.

Hi there ^-^

My real name is Daniel,
i am 23 and come from Germany.
My Englisch is very very bad
(thats because in the Saarland (south germany) we learn French in school)

I got most of my "skills" from Games and if you learn a language from phrases like

"Warning a huge battleship is approaching fast"

or

"You completed very easy mode, try again on normal mode"

it is bad as mine :)

So long !

Hi

I've read this board for quite some time.

My favorite shmups are DOJ and Psyvariar 2.
I also have a fondness for the snes game Biometal.

I post on Insert Credit and Selectbutton. I like Danmaku shooters, but I also like platforming games, and other non-shooter gaming genres.

Hello. My name is Jon and I just stumbled across these boards after rekindling the flames of addiction I had for shmups back in my childhood.

I'm pretty much new to the modern genre! This community looks to be a good place to get "into the know."

Heya. I've been to these boards plenty in the past, but had to start a new account. It had been a looong time since I'd stopped by and now that I'm back, it's cool to see there are a lot of new faces.

I have been playing games since the early 80s and shooters for just as long.

I drop by the board from time to time to keep abreast of what's happening with the genre, so I guess it's about time I introduced myself. I live in Floida and became interested in shooters after playing R-Type on the Super Nintendo. I wasn't very good at playing it, but there was something about the ships, weapons, monsters and sound effects that made it unforgettable. Many, many years later I picked up the box and was about to pack it away in the attic when those memories came flooding back. I instantly decided to find out more about what type of game it was (a Shmup, I guess they call them) and if there were any more like it. This site and others like it, introduced me to other shmups and I began buying the games and the consoles to play them on whenever I could find them. I don't 1CC or high score shmups and often don't even manage to finish them, but I always enjoy playing them none-the-less.
Odd as it may be, I have never seen an arcade coin-op shmup in my life and have never played one proper with a joystick. But I've amassed a considerable collection of console shooter's, both foreign and domestic, and it's the obscure ones that seem to fascinate me the most.

When i read all the scores, 1CC completes etc here,
then i can conclude i'm not THAT good ( i suck ;)

but this forum certainly kept me up-to-date, and a real resource for me.
So a big thank you !

Well, guess I'd better drop in on this thread.

I'd call myself a casual gamer because I just don't have the time anymore to spend hours a day on gaming. I wish I had more time to play vintage shooters...I'm a big fan of 90s stuff.

My main shmup setup right now is a region-modded PCE/CD and a supergun.

Anyway, this site is a great resource.

I should introduce myself too, haven't done so despite being active in the marketplace for a couple months.

Hi. :) I like shmups. From doujin to 80's stuff, it's all good. Though I've found my main interests are with the Saturn/DC era.

I am a designer, and I write music, especially drum and bass as of late. Feel free to check it out - http://www.connary.com I can also speak a lick of Japanese, so feel free to shoot me a PM in your language of choice. :)

Thanks.

Oh, also, are there any shmuppers in Utah? I'm here for my wife to finish up school. There is amazingly an arcade here that has Raiden, Zero Gunner, Sonic Wings 1 and 2, Strikers 1945 and a couple oldies. Maybe more. I was amazed.

Ahoy. I come by way of GaijinPunch's forum and the former Danmaku Dreamer/newly reborn Cave-STG sites. I've lurked around here off and on as my interest warrants, but as I'm currently living in Japan on a study-abroad program I finally have access to all the arcade shmups I'd only read about back home. My ultimate goal is to bring a Cave PCB back with me in June when I leave. We'll see how that goes.

Hi. Long time lurker, um, first time poster. Originally from Scotland, now live in Bangkok with the girlfriend and the dogs. Work as a writer, mainly for a load of British TV shows, commute back and forth quite a bit for meetings, so MAME and the PSP come in handy. Almost caused an air traffic incident the other day after nearly smashing my PSP in frustration on a later level of Salamander 2. I love games but I not that good at them.

I also like drinking coffee.

Hello all.

While I never officially joined these forums before, I have been occasional lurker and browser of the various Reviews and Xenocide Files.

I've been gaming for about 21 years (since 1986)

What got my interest into the Shmup genre was horizontal scrolling shooters like Gradius 3, R-Type, and Einhander.

Having recently modded my Xbox, which opened the potential floodgate for all kinds of Shmups to try out.

I found countless hours of enjoyment in many vertical shooters as well (Donpachi, Cyvern, Raiden Fighters, and Giga Wing.

So I've played a variety of them, and also began collecting whatever came out on Console (Gradius III and IV, Gradius V, R-Type Final, Raiden III)

As well as Doujin Japanese PC Shmups such as the Shrine Maiden series and Ether Vapor.

I am hopefully awaiting for the the release of Gradius VI and other Xbox Live Arcade releases become reality such as the Raiden Fighters Trilogy.

Nice to meet you all and I hope to enjoy my stay here.

Hello.I sighed up here about a month ago but i figure ill tell you all a little bit about me.My name is Terry, im 32 years old and i live in Texas though im moving to Boston real soon.I work in residential construction, building houses and doing remodels mostly.I received a NES for christmas the year they came out and have been into video games since though i did have an atari 2600 prior to that.Galaga is my favorite video game but im not great at it.Im not into PCBs simply because i dont have that kind of money but i do love arcade games.
I listen to punk/hardcore from all over but my main love is Japanese hardcore and early 80s British bands.I collect vinyl and dvds, mostly low budget post apocalyptic, sci-fi, horror and giant monster movies.I also love Star Trek ToS.
I loved NES shmups when i was a kid but havent had too much exposure to them since those days.Im trying to get into them because i want my games to be more challenging than just following along with the story line which is how most games seem to work these days. They also seem to just be more fun though maybe not so relaxing.I really really suck at them though.Hopefully i will improve but if i dont it doesnt matter as long as i continue to have fun.
