Another newcomer! :)

My first message was in Gradius 3 & 4 topic, then i saw this thread so...

Sintetically:

I'm an Italian shmups fan from Italy (near Milan) and i've been lurking this forum and the site since 2004.
My shmupper career started on Commodore Amiga (Xenon) and continued on Psone. Completely skipped 8-16 bit era, only recently discovered thanks to emulation (Pc- Engine astounding! :D).
My favourite games? R-Type Delta (my only 1CC, on easy level), Gradius V, Parodius series. Also Cave entire production, especially DDP.
Now playing Raiden Project and Time Bokan: Bokandesuyo.
Waiting for Mushihime Sama and Ibara.
Searching (with no results...:( ) for Zanac x Zanac and Thunderforce V.

Btw, Thunderforce V is better on Psone or on Saturn? ...ok, just kidding! Don't shoot the newcomer!:D

See ya!

My name is Visceral_1 and I've been lurking around here for the past two years or so. I often come to this site just to get news on the latest shmup releases. Currently living and working in Japan (Aomori) but I will soon relocate back to Whitby, Ontario, Canada. Kinda sucks considering I was lucky enought to be here for some major Shmup releases (galuda, mushi, psikyo collections, and what not) but will miss the Raiden 3 release and hopefully Ibara in the future (but my brother here can always send them to me hehe).

As for shooters, currently playing Raiden DX and Sengoku Blade. What started it all for me was UN Squadron and Forgotten Worlds. Can't wait for the Capcom Collection for FW this september. Umm... yeah... my biggest shmup accomplishment was being able to make it to the wall boss on level 7 of Gradius V on 1 credit then promptly giving up due to lack of skill and perserverance. *shrugs*

Take it easy,

Visceral
You, Myself, and couple other Ontario guys here should meet up one day, preferrably in Toronto.

Posted earlier about being yet another new guy. Here's a little about me.

Name: James
Location: Detroit Michigan
Favorite video game genre: Shoot em ups and RPG's
Consoles: Pretty much all major from NES on up
Favorite Shooter: I'll play em all and find something good about it
Currently playing:
N64: Star Soldier - Vanishing Earth
Duo: Soldier Blade
DC: Twinkle Star Sprites
PS2: Atelier Iris
AES: Andro Dunos
GCN: Star Soldier
Satun: Blast Wind
NES: Balloon Fight
SNES: Castlevania IV
Not playing other systems otherwise

I've gone to this site several times in the past, mainly used it as a reference but just recently discovered the forums. I've been playing shooters since I first played NES. Great games like Gradius, Zanac, Stinger, and Star Force. These were the games that got me into shooters and it pretty much is my favorite genre.

Hi there

I just posted on the favourite shmup/company/system thread, but I thought it good to introduce myself. I had been a member before the old forums went down, but I finally decided to re-join.

I started the gaming world with Spider Fighter on the Atari 2600, given to me by my Nan, and since then shooters have been my favourite genre. I stuck to the Atari brand from the STe to the Jag, then got a PS1 and now use PC and PS2 for my regular fix.

I am also in the process of making my own shmup in the style of Tron/Space Tripper/Gridrunner. I will post some stuff on it soon.

Anyway, here is some stuff about me...
Name: Steve
Born in 1978
Location: Gloucester, UK
Currently playing:
Not much, but when I get time, they are:
Gradius V, Warning Forever, R-Type Final
GamerTag: TrevorMcFurr

Yeah, then he became eightone and then disappeared from the forums.
Well, maybe he'll be back one day...under a name associated with 9's or a 9?
(get it? Going up in numbers? Seven Force...EightOne...Nine---?)
When I first saw posts from the new Seven Force, I immediately thought that EightOne had returned until I saw the writing style is different. Anyhow, in case anybody's wondering, 81 is the country code for Japan when making an overseas phonecall. Speaking of whom, I can't seem to find his homepage anywhere. I wonder what's up with him? I wonder if he's still stationed in Yokosuka?

Oh, that day?

I'm gs68. I'm 16 and turning 17 this November, and will be a senior in high school. I play shmups every now and then, my more-frequently played ones being Parsec47, DoDonPachi, DoDonPachi: dai ou jou, Strikers 1945 Plus, among others.

I've been a shmup fan for nearly 2 years now--Gradius III (SNES) was what got me into shmups. I further expanded my horizons by getting MAME and downloading ROMs of Gradius games, as well as those of Darius games.

I have many consoles which I've acquired over the years--from the NES, SNES, and Genesis, to the GameCube and 2 PS2's (one Japanese and one American). I originally bought a Japanese PS2 so I could play Beatmania IIDX, but later realized that having a Japanese PS2 allows me to buy from a larger selection of games, so I picked up Gradius Gaiden and DDP: DOJ recently. I never sell my consoles and I only sell a game if it sucks (one case in fact: Space Shot for PSX).

I actually have been playing shmups for longer than I can remember--my first shmup was Sky Shark (known as Flying Shark to all the non-Americans out there) for the NES. Throughout my life, I've played various less-manic shmups like Raiden II, Raiden Fighters 1, 2, and Jet, Viper Phase 1 (which really caught my interest the first time I played it), 1943 (NES and arcade), UN Squadron (arcade and NES), Thunder Force 2, among others.

I have a few 1CC's under my belt: Gradius Gaiden, Gradius III (SNES), Gun-Nac, Life Force (NES), 1941: Counter Attack, and Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth. I am not very skilled and games like the DDP and Darius series kick my ass.

Off the topic of shmups, I'm taking piano lessons, am going to be class secretary/treasurer at my school, and I play plenty of non-shmup games, like Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 2, Initial D, Star Wars: Rogue Leader, Para Para Paradise (don't be hatin'), Halo 2 (at my local recreational center though), and Soul Calibur 2. I don't listen to a wide variety of music--mostly I listen to video game soundtracks and Super Eurobeat.

Usually I'm a nice person unless something or someone frustrates or provokes me, then it takes a while for me to cool down. I'm very smart but I lack productivity which being smart cannot totally make up for. However I've become more outgoing--I attend plenty of school-related events and the occasonal party (most parties I attend are in the daytime and don't involve drugs or alcohol though, those two are no-nos). I don't bring up the topic of shmups too often, and I try to look like a normal person out in public. I also get very good grades in school and recently got a 4.0 GPA.

Well that's all for now. I hope I didn't type too much!

Hi im skooboi. I've been a fan of shmups for a long time and have always loved 'dodging the bullets'. Kinda sad to see that you don't see these games much in the arcades anymore, and not many companies are making big strides to make new ones. Anyways I enjoy the classics of course like 1942 and raiden. Hello!

I'm biocat. Just some guy living in Japan. I guess the first real shmup that I spent a large amount of time with was Guardian Legend. Of course I played a bunch of other NES shmups, too. Was way big into the Turbo Grafx way back when and I guess that's where I got my biggest dose of shooters. I played Gate of Thunder and Lords of Thunder to death. The end.

Another new face. I know everyone is quite excited too. It's not like 5 people join everyday...oh wait a sec...

OK but for serious, I'm mostly interested in the music of shumps: collecting and tabbing/arranging them for guitar. I don't have the money to buy consoles, so I usually play what free or emulated shumps I can get my fingers on.

" Hello World "

Another newbie here... Have been coming to shmups.com for a couple of years for the reviews, but only recently became aware of the forum. Signed up a couple of weeks back.

My favourite verts are the Treasure shmups, Souki, Garegga, and SNS 2.

Have always also been a huge fan of the whole Gradius & Darius series, and all the Thunderforces too. (I'd particularly love to see a next-gen TF sequel happen one day...)

Apart from the true shmups, I also tend to like a lot of the 3D 'on rails' type shooters, stuff like Space Harrier, REZ, Panzer Dragoon and Sin & Punishment.

I'm a Brit, but now live in sunny/foggy San Francisco.

A big 'Hi' to you all!

Hello everybody,

I'm Michael from the Netherlands, Europe.
Back in the old days, when Amiga was hot, I was one of those guys that said you only shoot stuff.
These days I stand corrected and consider shmups to be the best genre in videogames.
Ofcourse I also like other games like racing and whatever but shmups are the only genre that always remain exciting and fun to play.
The first shmup that I played a lot was R-Type. We had an arcade machine in the military home when I was doing my duty.
I could get to level 5 on one credit until one day they broke my heart by removing the machine.
I still wasn't hooked on shmups though.
That only happened after playing Ikaruga, R-Type Final and Gradius V.
By then I realised the amount of fun and playing time these games gave me.
Another big pro for shmups is that they are still very playable after 10 years from now whereas a lot of different genres will not bring you the same amount of fun.

Greetings to everyone and a big thanks for havinf this forum !

Hi people,

After a long long break, I decided I might come back. I'm very busy this year, the end of my career is approaching and so it's reflected with the almost total lack of spare time.

People here will know me from posting before that huge boards crash. However, since there seems to be some new faces here it wouldn't be that inappropiate to do a brief introdcution =).

Well, as you may notice I'm an avid shooter player, specially Cave games. No wonder my all time fav shmups are Dodonpachi and ESPRaDe. I first got into shmups some years ago when a friend of mine made me play some NeoGeo games, and then stumbled upon Sonic Wings 3. I eventually got hooked with the game just for the sake of personal superation and got more interested in shmups. And then, I found out about Dodonpachi, which was the final step into the abyss :D You can guess after that ;)
It is curious, though, that years and years ago I always looked at shmups with a mix of hate and admiration, I always thought they were way just too impossible to be fun. Life is ironic huh? ;) (Besides, on a random note, unfortunately there hasn't been much of a shmup tradition over here in Spain :?)

On a more general side, name's Kevin and I think I'mk an average veteran gamer. Got started with Game boy in 1990 and after that came SNES, PSX(really late =X), and GC. Hope to get a PS2 soon and who knows, a Mega Drive and a Saturn some day =).I like lots of genres, being sports the only one I don't quite like (with casual exceptions, of course ;))

With University assignments and other game obsessions (DDR, SSBM and F-zero :P ) I had put aside shooters a bit for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to start playing them more consistently in the future and post more over here.

That's all guys, sorry for such a long text ^^;
See you soon

I've been reading this site pretty regularly since its inception years ago. I started lurking the forum only a couple of months ago though, finally got around to registering. :P

I love shmups, my favorite games though are 2D fighters and Zelda/Neutopia/Simon's Quest/etc. adventure type games. Castlevania is my favorite game series ever. Been playing it since the original. I think the only gaming claim to "fame" I'll ever have is that I can beat the first NES Castlevania without getting hit. Pretty rare I can actually pull that off though. :P

I love all of Konami's and Compile's shmups, and I think Data East was one of the most underrated developers ever. That said, my favorite game company ever will always be SNK.

The first shmup I ever played was Defender. My favorites of all time are Daioh, Life Force, Sky Adventure, and Dragon Breed.

As time goes on there are less and less people I run into (sad since I work in game retail) that I can talk about R-Type with, that even heard of Capcom's 194_ games, etc. Thank God for this forum. :D

My love of shmups developed, ironically, because we couldn't afford a console when I was younger, so all my gaming was done in the arcades.

The thread should be stickied. Apparently the moderators don't think so though.
