You need:

latest Shmupmame:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30659

and here comes the tricky part:

Search for the Espgaluda rom.

open the zip and rename the files:

a04801w064.u7 -> image-1.u7
a04802w064.u8 -> image-2.u8
b04801w064.u1 -> bitmap-1.u1
t04801w064.u19 -> text-1.u19
w04801b032.u17 -> music-1.u17

add the PGM BIOS (pgm_t01s.rom) and the program ROM from the 140u2 release (espgaluda_v100.u38) and zip it up.

Many thanks goes to cstle for the explanation!

Maybe you have luck and your rom has already all it needs.

Does this really work? This is my favorite game. I had to get rid of my copy and my PS2, and I'd really like to start playing it again. It was gonna be my first 1cc, I used to get all the way to the last boss on 1cc.

I got this running on PCSX2 some time ago and enjoyed it, if it were made available on MAME for less resource cost than emulating the PS2 version I could certainly get into this game.

In fact I was hoping this game would come out soon enough.

Because they were already dumped before u2 came out. Esp was dumped yesterday or the day before.

When and by who? The only dump I ever heared of before was the program rom which is currently in MAME.
