Japanese site about Blazing Star

Post by doctorx0079 »

Just saw this on Wikipedia. Not sure if the BS players here know about it. Looks like a lot of useful data.

Very nice :D

Can someone please translate the secret section ? Google translate is a bit confusing.

Looks like there is a stage selection of some sort and a secret level

stage select: You have to press and hold "right" and "D button" with 1P and 2P simultaneously. Probably during title screen.

secret stage: Unfortunately this is a bit misleading. It says that stage 2 and 4 become "Caravan stages". But basically everything it probably means is that you get the vertical rows of jewels when you've killed everything before quick enough...

The site is excellent though, very nice find!

Pulstar was the better game. Blazing Star didn't do much for me... but did look beautiful though...

Fascinating to learn of new tricks (i.e.: access new Caravan mode) for the classic MVS game of Blazing Star. Upon seeing BS at my local arcade back in February of 1998, it was a "jaw-dropper" in terms of displaying CG-rendered sprites on the aging MVS hardware platform -- it was refreshing to see another cool arcade-only shmup title released from the likes of developoer Yukemobo (until it made it's debut on the AES console platform later on).

Would this new "access Caravan mode" work on the AES cartridge version of BS as well?

Here are some more cool pre-conceptual drawings for Blazing Star found at this link: http://blazingstar.yukihotaru.com/neogeo_freak.htm

I suppose if there was more memory allocated for the huge 348MB endowed BS cartridge, then some more lengther cool hand-drawn anime cutscenes could've been implemented to show more of all the main characters doing their thing in the opening "attract" scene. But to keep it from being too long, some concessions had to be made to keep it short and eye-appealing to both the okatu and hard-core shmup fans.

In one MVS BS flyer, it mentions of a 48,000 yen price tag for a brand new and complete MVS BS kit...American arcade distributors made sure to order new MVS BS kits for their arcade owners/operators when it was made available for the U.S. MVS arcade marketbase back in early 1998.

Thanks to both doctorx0079 and Plasmo for both new info and translation of the 411 on BS.

So what i fiercely hate, ridiculously getting anger...

...of course it's fact of those precious sites dying and being erased, dammit!

Thankfully, this time most of site was saved in webarchiveorg, but!

As usual, it didn't bother to save all images. Sweet, precious images... It managed to save those Blazing Star related scans from NeoGeoFreak mag section of site.

What it didnt save - other illustration stuff - this includes Pulstar-related scans from NeoGeoFreak section of site, and whatever it had in "official illustrations" section.

So, the question is, of couse, if anybody have fills.

p.s. here's 7z of those scans from webarchive copy if you dont bother browsing site

...from Neo Geo Freak magazine, as stated on website :?:

and webarchive didnt save other pics - for Pulstar pics maybe we can find some in neogeofreak mag scans on neogeoforlife site, but what this fansite had in "official illustrations" section - i'm not sure how to recover.
