Darius Burst announced for PSP
Re: Darius Burst announced for PSP
Well aside from this game, I can't think of a single PSP-exclusive shmup. Chances of them releasing a bunch in the same year is pretty unlikely too. So no, I don't think the PSP has a shmup library for '09.
I mean honestly. Shooting Love 200X, Daioujou BLEX, Raiden Fighters Aces (US), Raiden IV (US), and Futari in November can't be topped right now. It's just an unfair comparison.

Not for Shmups, that's right. They're doing well overall.

I'll buy this for sure. Gotta kill me some robofish!
Overall the PSP isn't getting much of my time these days, I'll admit. The only other PSP game that I'm positive I'm buying this year is Ys 7. I'm sure there will be at least one more but nothing is jumping to mind.

I'm actually frothing down there. I've been playing Pulstar (emu), Xexex, Salamander 2, Gradius Gaiden on the PSP for months and all of a sudden THIS!!! Good GOD this is great news!

Damn fucking straight! Thank you for that, cj. Here's a fact that's fairly relevant: I actually pre-ordered Super Darius 2 (SCD) from Gametronix in Houston back in '92. I waited a year - it was delayed THAT long! Say what you want about it - yeah, it was not one of the better titles like Darius Force, Darius II or Darius Gaiden, but hey; still pretty tough and pretty nice for the Duo, too.For some people, having classic shmups available in handheld format is worth the price of purchase.

Re: Darius Burst announced for PSP
The thing I don't understand is that I never felt all that comfortable with the PSP's controls. Everything felt really stiff with the D-Pad and the analog stick felt sloppy. Then there was the thing with the 1 button that didn't depress properly...
Did they improve the PSP in this regard? Mine is the original version.
It's just hard for me to imagine a shmup being comfortable/playable on PSP. Otherwise I'd be stoked to play a new Gradius.

Yeah, I believe they fixed the dpad when they released the slim.brentsg wrote:Did they improve the PSP in this regard? Mine is the original version.
Anyone with an original series PSP needs to do this.
Seriously. Playing anything requiring diagonals the dpad on my fat psp was just a exercise in frustration until I tried the mod in the link above. It's amazing what a difference just that extra half millimetre of thickness makes. Now I can hit diagonals just as easily as hitting other directions - it feels perfectly natural. And I didn't even bother using a bit of an NES sleeve like that guy does. I just used some thin cardboard. And instead of a hot glue gun, I just used some wood glue I had laying around, dabbed on with a Q-tip. Did the job fine.
So get yourself a can of compressed air, read the guide and do it! It's a very simple mod, and basically I went from 'Oh crap, no way can I enjoy playing games on this piece of shit' to the psp being pretty much my main gaming platform. (Hello sweet sweet emulation!)
Re: Darius Burst announced for PSP
They improved it but didn't fix it. On a separate but related note, the position of the analog nub is still awful.Lloyd Mangram wrote:Yeah, I believe they fixed the dpad when they released the slim.brentsg wrote:Did they improve the PSP in this regard? Mine is the original version.

Thanks! Just read it and did it. Feels great.Lloyd Mangram wrote:Anyone with an original series PSP needs to do this.
Anyone think there's an easy way to turn the analog nub into a square gate? Since the diagonals feel iffy when using it to play shmups, maybe it could help.
Or maybe it would just make it worse

What the hell...Lloyd Mangram wrote:Anyone with an original series PSP needs to do this.
Anyone with a PSP-1000, the easiest to mod, should mod it and use RemoteJoy on their PC. I did this a few weeks ago and used a 360 controller for Monster Hunter. The controller was much easier to control the camera angles with.
Also, using a USB Saturn pad is also nice. When my back starts giving me hell from being hunched over (I'm not even that old, I just cram my face into the thing), I just make the image large in RemoteJoy and lean back. It's great.

Remotejoy is pretty cool, but many of us don't often play our PSPs in front of our PCs. Particularly when we're on the bus/train/crapper/etc.Elixir wrote:What the hell... Anyone with a PSP-1000, the easiest to mod, should mod it and use RemoteJoy on their PC.
A simple mod that gives you a properly working dpad is a better all-round solution.

No offence-
a photo
of a screenshot
of a psp game in a magazine
Don't have too much faith in that. Besides- on a smaller PSP screen it'll look loads better I'm sure.

I wonder if there will be a port to the Apple App Store? But buying the PSP version day 1 regardless.

Re: Darius Burst announced for PSP
Just read the Famitsu article and digged some interesting details. Story is standard issue for a shmup. Planet Darius gets invaded by cyber fishies again and the Darius Army's main line of defense is destroyed, forcing PD to use its most advanced weapon the "Silver Hawk Burst" to attack the enemy's home planet. Blah blah. Supposedly the exterior of the Silver Hawk Burst is based on the original Silver Hawk but they're totally different ships (yeah, right.) They also talk about Burst which seems to work exactly like the laser attack in G Darius. Laser comes out of your ship and Burst Unit and covers a large area, letting you do stuff like counter enemy beams. No mention of making the Burst Unit blow up or capturing enemies. I loved capturing enemies in G Darius, so I hope they replace it with some other interesting mechanic. Having Options as the only new thing would be lame.
This is personal opinion but I think the new super laser looks uber weak even when countering. The super laser was so badass in G Darius. I hope they fix this. I'm guessing it's not really far in development since there is no HUD display and the article doesn't give a definite release date, just "this winter."
Edit: also mentions the pilots. They are the female A.I. TI2 and some test pilot called Riiga Puratika (no idea how to englishify that.)

Yeah, I'd like to see some shots with more interesting backgrounds, but so far it's looking pretty good.
japjac, maybe you should have smeared some dog poop on that photo you took to make it look properly awful.

Re: Darius Burst announced for PSP
I'm really hoping they don't stray from the "Warning:..." with the name of the battleship and all that.
Man, would it ever suck if the bosses were "nameless" for some reason.
edit: oh, yeah there's a pic of the "warning" screen...nevermind.

Re: Darius Burst announced for PSP
It don't make sense that they remove the Warning screen. Especially on the PSP since it needs to load the boss.

Those unconfirmed rumors last year of a cancelled Treasure-developed Darius project are still fresh in my mind.
Did Famitsu actually confirm who is the developer of Darius Burst?
