Darius Burst announced for PSP

Post by kid aphex »

stole the news from member duckroll on the gaf

"Brand new Darius game after 2 billion years. Taito brings the war on fishes back on the portable scene. 11 stages, branching paths (starting from Stage 2, all stages have 2 paths, 5 stages per complete run, 4 possible final stages). Gundam 00 mecha designers on board for mecha design. Probably the only worthwhile article in Famitsu this week I bet."

It looks as if on the upper right you can get a look at the names of some of those behind the game(Zuntata is listed). Anyone recognize anybody there?

Massive shame if it's PSP-only. Would have loved to have seen a new HD Darius...

So this explains why Taito renewed the IP for Darius, definitely stoked for this one, my PSP needs something new to play. :D

Everyone listed there except ZUNTATA is from the anime industry, it seems...

SF ..."research and setting" I guess:
Tomohiro Chiba
Yousuke Kuroda

Mecha Design:
Kanetake Ebikawa
Takayuki Yanase

Sound:
Under ZUNTATA is specifically listed Hisayoshi Ogura (...probably didn't need to write this, but for completeness' sake)

It's about damn time that Taito properly released another Darius sequel after their very last arcade PCB outing of G-Darius. Now if Taito were to make a HD-remake of Darius for the PS3 as a disc-based game release, I'm sure it would do quite well sales-wise just for the name recognition factor alone. ^_~

The Darius announcement was good enough, but seeing ZUNTATA's name makes this even more exciting.

Perhaps a Darius Gaiden HD/G-Darius HD will turn up if this sells enough copies. /wishful thinking

I dunno... I think for a properly done HD Darius on a blu-ray disc, production costs could turn up quite high and we all know how it works in the mainstream gaming "sea"; there's just not enough people around who would buy a "Old skool 2D arcade shooting game" at full retail price. I don't think Taito would risk such a move. At least not now.

Patience is a virtue - I'm waiting for the day blu-ray production costs fall to dvd standards and hopefully more niche companies try to risk a bit something...

I'd be VERY happy if a remake of G Darius showed up on XBLA. That's one of my faves, but it looks kinda fugly nowadays.

I wonder if they'll keep the big dueling lasers thing? I thought that was pretty wild.

Any HD iteration would be much better suited as a download release through PSN and/or XBLA.

I'm excited, but I also can't help but be a little wary. The last time a old classic got brought back, it was Thunderforce. And well you know... And then of course there's R-Type Final...and Gradius Rebirth..... Not really stellar stuff. But we do have Gradius V. Hopefully we'll at least get something a bit inspired on this one.

Of course, this is by totally different people...I just don't know who these people are. Fingers crossed.

I cannot speak for anyone but myself but I know that Thunder Force 6 is good. It wasn't amazing/outstanding but it was good. If Darius Burst is at least as good as TF6 then PSP owners should be looking forward to this release.

I could say I'm slightly let down by the (low) number of stages but as far as my history with the Darius series is concerned it's basically a one route run anyway. I'm sure some others feel the same way.

A game like Darius should at least be 6 stages(in a row). 5 seems a bit short.

Good scan please so I can read it!!! OMG DARIUS!!!

Would gladly work on translating it if the text is not too hard, but I need a high res clear copy for that.

Edit: Just got reminded of TF6 and how painfully disappointing it was, so I unheld my breath. You know, just in case.

Hisayoshi Ogura being listed is a good sign, IMO.

Having just 11 stages concerns me. If there are mid-stage splits ala G.Darius from stage 2 onward, then this may not be a problem (hopefully they're not just referring to Zone Select). Mid-stage splits could make for 8 possible endings should the developers decide to go that way. I'm betting this will be a big improvement over that shallow, shitty licensed Darius R for GBA. Hopefully this is good and goes to XBLA like SIExtreme did.

If G.Darius goes to XBLA, then I'd like to see something like a "G.Darius HD Ver. W" - with W meaning double, as in having both versions 1 and 2.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
