I noticed that. Must meant to have read 'ibara/ibara arrange'. Because not counting Ibara and Ibara Black Label as seperate games would be very silly indeed

I haven't been around long enough to know, but it's standard practice to say that the games that dropped out of the previous top25 are better than the ones that entered right? :P

Nice!
Gradius V is a hell of a shooter, and even though it doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best shooter of the world, I think that at least once it MUST be the best of the bunch. Because it deserves it. At least once.
Good one, GV!

(PS It wasn't my N.1)
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

It's called "change of font" and it's intended as a celebration. :P

Gradius V #1?

What... The... Fuck?

Drop Gradius V 8-30 places or so and it'd be a fine list =)

Gradius V at the top is perfectly understandable. A reaction to the long-standing dominance of complex scoring systems. An epic survival-based game with mind-blowing graphics. That's what many want, and Gradius V is as close as it gets.

not to burst your bubble, but i think it's just because the game is available in all territories, and is very affordable.

Personally I dont really agree with Gradius V as number 1....

....but then, Im just not very fond of it, is all, I guess. Perhaps the ONE shmup of the many I've played that I just cant really get into. Treasure's style doesnt seem to agree with me much.

I also of course woulda liked to see Giga Wing get higher.

Strikers 1945 2 and Shiki 2 are both on there though, so all's fine by me, really.

"it's just because" makes no sense to me. All the same is true of Ikaruga as well-- indeed Ikaruga is even more readily available and for less. But it's not in first. Gradius V is in first in large part because it is what many want: epic, survival-based, and gorgeous to behold. Why wouldn't there eventually be a reaction against complex scoring-based shmups? And surely many do want next-gen graphics in their shmups. Gradius V is the standard to beat.

PREJUDICE, BIAS, INJUSTICE

The font in previous years wasn't changed to reflect the #1 game!

Also, everybody likes Gradius V because it has Treasure music.

I still have to play many of these on the list. Time to get cracking. Or it would be, but I'm having too much fun with Galactic Attack (RayForce) on my Saturn. I can't even finish a playthrough yet, even with the 4 credits, but that's more motivation to play. It's a unique game with the layers and I would have liked it in top 10. Oh well.

And I guess no one shares my love for Chaos Field. Even if it is bosses only.

Pleased to see a hori in the top slot. And interestingly, a non-arcade release. I'm sad for the lack of tube shmup and arena shmup representation though. Some crazy exciting stuff has been released in those genres recently like Super Stardust HD, Geowars Galaxies, Space Giraffe and Everyday Shooter, but seem to be getting ignored by voters if they are not even getting an honorable mention (maybe as a result of the platforms they are on.) Posting the results on the birthday of shmups.com (at least in my timezone ;) ), was a nice touch...

In the voting thread, where else? use some imagination and just throw all the games we voted for together

(p.s. I would say Bloodreign and other people as well but they were playing trickses with their votes)

BTW, if Ibara and Ibara Black Label were to be considered seperate games as it should be, would Ibara still be on the Top25? Recount please.

Is Ibara BL really THAT different from the original? o_o

Like, different levels, different enemies, different everything-that-needs-to-be-different to make it a separate game?

It has the same sprites and that, sure. But everything that makes it a Raizing game has been changed to make it a Cave game. Though it does have rank and that. It's nice seeing Ibara in the top 25, but I'm not sure it made it in entirely on its own merits.

Then again, how many people actually voted for Ibara BL? It had a very limited release. Wasn't its run entirely constituted of reprogramed Vanilla Ibara boards?

What can I say :P I had to celebrate. I can mail a neutral version of the list to any Gradius haters out there :)

P.S. oxtsu had the best list this year, hands down.

Fun fact: Nobody voted for Ibara Black Label, and only one vote went to Ibara Arrange Mode, so the whole discussion is moot.

Ibara earned its place in the top 25 all by itself.
