Yeah, but I seem to be forever stymied by my technological ineptitude. I was counting on recording video with a digi cam and it hasn't been cooperative. ;(

I enjoyed the EDF review, but I have to say that it's not true that the game doesn't require strategy (on the higher difficulties, at least). A lot of the stages are easy and simple enough to mindlessly blast through, but there are also a bunch of long & hard ones that require a decent amount of planning and some creative strategies. Although I guess that depends on which class you play. I've barely used anything but the Ranger.

The padding is bad though, and it's gotten worse now that there are four different classes with their own set of weapons. It really sucks when you have to farm for hours and hours because you're missing a weapon that's essential to progressing through Inferno. In EDF4, I didn't get a Lysander Z until I was like 100 hours in.

Nice review. I agree with iconoclast, you certainly have to have some strategy on the highest difficulty. Grinding for armor & weapons is easily the worst part of the game, yeah.. Multiplayer takes out some of the tedium (and difficulty scaling keeps it challenging) but the grinding and amount of levels is still silly.

Yeah, I should get pumped and do Shenmue 2. Haven't been playing many games this year (or the year before), which has kept my pro reviewing career from taking off.

I don't know when Shenmue 3 is coming out or for what, but I'll surely want to try it sometime.

What other action games are so obsessively focused on battling enlarged arthropods? Crimson Sea series and that downloadable Wii co-op third person shooter perhaps, but there must be more.

Kunoichi/Nightshade (PS2), sadly. :[ They wimped out of Shinobi's ninja bloodlust by making you chop up a bunch of fuckin lobsters. They don't even slice up properly! How do you go from "demon sword wants to drink blood, glut the maw of death before it eats you too" to "more lobster pls" ? FML.

There was also the infamous Starship Troopers FPS... Not that the game engine lived up to their original announcements.
At least that Ikusagami stage delivered some unprecedented(?) numbers.

That might be a good idea. That would shorten my dreadful life.

But seriously, I believed it was some "constructive criticism".

A few quotes from Rob's reviews, have always stuck in my head. For years. And they're always in a ridiculous accent.

MANY times, when I am playing a shmup, and things are getting really intense, that quote "I love it when the heat is on", comes to mind. It messes up my "zone".
He should be proud of that though.

And of course...."shumps farm". You really can't top that.

Also, Rob, if you see this...I watched your hiking vid. That was absolutely stunning. I thought I lived in place, with much natural beauty. The stuff you had on your vid, really made my jaw drop.
