TOURNAMENT OF MACAW SHOOTING GAME TOURNAMENT

Hello! Do you like shooting games!? Do you want to competitively play shooting games!? Were the previous tournaments not awesome enough and you want a truly awesome shooting game tournament to participate in!?

THEN PARTICIPATE IN TOM-STGT!

Here is an overview of the entire tournament in dot-points because I know people cant be bothered reading big paragraphs:

Tournament started MONDAY THE 10th OF MARCH

TOURNAMENT IS NOW OVER!

END OF TOURNAMENT CELEBRATION FESTIVAL NOW IN PROGRESS, PARTICIPATE IN THE OFF TOPIC THREAD! http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 877#350877

Sign ups closed!

OUTLINE:

- One game will be played a week (no silly voting weeks!)
- That means that the game is chosen by me each week (And I know what people want to play!)
- Games will not be revealed beforehand (Suspense!)
- The game will be played from Monday to Sunday (non-stop action!)
- Duration of 5 Weeks
- Ranking points are determined by what place you come in a week. At the end of the 5 playing weeks, the person with the most ranking points wins
- Weekly result threads will be available
- Only MAME will be used, but if you have a pcb or console version of a game that will also be allowed (as long as the console version is the same as arcade version)

GUARANTEES:

- Only awesome games will be played every week (And for those people that think they can read my mind, no, I am not going to have NMK games every week)
- You will thoroughly enjoy each and every week
- You will be satisfied and remember how fun shooting game tournaments can be

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO AND HOW IT WILL WORK:

SIGNING UP (CLOSED!)

- Respond in this thread saying you want to sign up

RANKING POINTS

- 1st place in a playing week gets 30pts, 2nd place gets 29pts, 3rd place gets 28pts, etc...
- The winner is the person with the most ranking points at the end of the 5 playing weeks

RIVALS

- Once the list of participants is finalized I will distribute a RIVAL for every participant
- In each week, if you manage to defeat your RIVAL then they will lose TWO ranking points
- RIVALS will be changed each week
- If you want you can call somone out and challenge them to be your RIVAL for an upcoming week, they must accept though
- Defeat your RIVAL otherwise be shamed

MACAW'S WRATH

- Macaw will be participating in the playing weeks as well
- Macaw's scores will be separate to the table of the participants scores
- At the end of a playing week, if Macaw has a higher score than the top person in the table of the participants, then you will all be shamed. Macaw will then constantly insult the participants
- Macaw has the advantage of knowing which games are coming

OTHER STUFF

- Everyone competes for themselves
- Starts Monday 10th March
- If you have any questions, just ask!

Wouldn't it be better if the rival was randomized for every round? What if a noob, say like me, gets stuck with some crazy guy?? That would just suck.

Also i think one random rival each week will be cool.

(And for those people that think they can read my mind, no, I am not going to have NMK games every week)

Ok its settled, I will make it the rivals change each week.

Also, if you want to challenge someone to be your rival for an upcoming week then that is allowed to.

First post updated to reflect the changes.

There is no requirement to participate in EVERY week if you sign up, so whether or not you can make the time to play in any of the weeks is up to you.

The start date will still be determined by how many people have signed up by the end of this week.

By the way P_Hat, is that YES a sign up request?

I'd love to join, but MAME only means I'm out. I guess even with the big old pile of shmups I own on console or PCB (70 - 80), it would be pretty lucky if I did have your five chosen ones. I guess with the system you've developed I couldn't say 'I'm in' only to be stumped by a game I don't have halfway through and mess up the system.

Or are the mystery games fairly common?

Sorry to ask, as I know you specify 'only MAME', but I just wanted to check...

I'll sign you up, and if there happens to be a week of a game that you happen to have, then feel free to play. Just be prepared incase you are helplessly beaten by your weekly rival because you cant actually play the game

You should really check out MAME though, its really quite good!

Unfortunately I doubt Icarus will join this tournament. Would be cool if he did though.

Sign me up! I can't guarantee I'll play every week (Smash Bros. comes out very shortly and that'll take much of my attention for at least a little while...) but I'll definitely make an attempt.

You could quite easily be set up in time for the tournament.

I am in, though I had fun during STGT '07 (except for Viper Phase 1) :P
no, I am not going to have NMK games every week
As long as we get to play P-47 Aces, Thunder Dragon II, or Rapid Hero, I'm good.

Enhasa: I am expecting you to join too.

You're right. The GP2X and PSP should do me wonders, so I should get on it. Sadly I'm a bloody Mac owner, so no PC, which I guess might make things a little more troublesome. Inconvenience after all, is the reason I've bought fuckin' Macs since my first one in 1990...

There is MAME for MacOS. I played DDP on it, even, and it was a damn old Mac, too. ;)
