Nah man, Gridstormer sucks, because you can't freely choose your powerups as in V-V. You just have to take whatever powerups the game throws at you, which really screws with your weapon switching tactics.

Beginners usually like Grindstormer because the bombs make it seem less severe, but once you develop some strategies for different stages and bosses, you'll see that V-V is the pro way to go. 8)

Actually V-V includes "Grindstormer" :D

Input code Right, Left, Button2, Left, Down, Button1, Up, Left on title screen after inserting a credit. Displayed ''BOMBER. Ver'' and the game system is changed to "Grind Stormer"'s one.

Flickering is fixed by playing the game on the Gens emulator with the Sprite Limit off.

But it's a emulator. :|

WOW nice to see that Varth got number one in your books but I feel Viewpoint should of fared a lot better than it did in your table.

Although I question the merit of some of the stuff you placed over Nostradamus, in particular, it doesn't matter much, as such a heaping helping of your...discourse simply can't be found anywhere else. ;) Thanks much for taking the time to do this, and, if nothing else, bring some attention (of varying natures) to titles no one knew existed.

Again, you can have absolute minimalism in terms of aesthetics and what not, but if the gameplay's there, count me in. Fortunately, completely awesome games like Viewpoint have it *ALL*, Sparky. ;)

I ignored Capcom classics vol.2 but t seems that with Varth and Eco Fighters in it it might be a decent purchase, after all.

Yessum. You can use the right analogue stick in Eco Fighters for a much friendlier rotation system...same as you could in Forgotten Worlds in CCC1.

I like it quite a bit despite the lack of tate for the vertical games. At least the vertical games are in full screen with no wobble mode or full sized sprite mode that cuts off part of the screen. 1941 and Side Arms are very sweet too.

Rob wrote:#30 Gallop - Armed Police Unit (Irem, 1991)
I'll give this game some credit for originality, but that is about it. Basically a memorizer where you speed up the screen as you venture into the right half. The game encourages you to race through and finish as quickly as possible but I ignored that for the sake of surviving through one play. I can almost see how this would be an interesting challenge for the right type of person (Viewpoint #1 fan). Gave up by: 4th or 5th boss. The one that forces you into a space the size of your hitbox, with quickly regenerating gunpods coating the interior.

(Missing something obvious there? Seems like bullshit to me.).
dodododododododododododododododo DODO DODO DODO.
GALLOP.

You know, I hated this game when I first played, but coming back to it months later I had a lot of fun. It reminds me of when I used to play piano and would sometimes play through a song I knew as fast as possible, just for the hell of it. It's kind of a rush knowing exactly how the song goes and knowing it'd be a piece of cake at normal speed, but pushing yourself faster and faster. Gallop's basically the same concept, just replacing the musical notes with your typical deathtrap-laden R-Type stage. Definitely not for everyone, but if you're into that sort of thing it's addictive.
