I disable comments because I usually think my runs are awful, and I don't feel like reading comments on how awful they are. I've just been trying to get in the habit of recording them for proof and whatnot.

That run, for example, was awful. I used hypers in REALLY stupid places, choked on stage 5 multiple times, burned out my super laser before places where I can really cash in. I hate watching that replay and seeing all the places I can improve it. I really think 27b is within reach--if not higher--I just need to keep toying with my hyper use (I haven't worked out a concrete plan, but I'm getting closer and closer).

Oh, Roo, you asked in the HS thread (which I will hopefully update today) about the 5b bonus: it comes from rank. Rank 50 = 5b, 45 = 4.5b, 27 = 2.7b, and so on. Combine that with the 1b for beating Hibachi and 1b for Inbachi not to mention the pretty decent EOS bonus for chain (I'm pretty sure you can get another 1b from that if you push 40-50k by the end of the stage) along with better hyper use, and yeah, 27b is within reach, 29-30 should be possible if not more. I wish they'd fix the damn leaderboards. ; ;

Ah, so using a bunch of small hypers to push up rank pays off if you clear the game? Good to know.

I've been toying around with hypering bosses more aggressively too - I used to stop hypering once I got to a boss so I could start the next stage with a large hyper stocked, but I'm seeing it's probably not such a good idea. There's a decent chunk of points to be had from hypering bosses and building your chain for the end of stage bonus, and you'll start with a nice full gauge if you were hypering, so you can usually regain several hypers at the start of the next level. Stage 5 is such a pain, it's so heartbreaking when you get a decent combo started then get smacked by something stupid, your score for the run is fucked. :(

I think my one real gripe is that higher level hypers don't seem to replenish the gauge any faster than level 1 hypers. Am I wrong on this? It seems like it might be worth it in some parts to drop a level 1-2 hyper (preferably 2, but 1 in a pinch), build gauge, use super laser just enough to get hyper back up, then pop it again to at least come close to topping off. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I fucking love 360 mode.

You can regain more of your meter in a higher level hyper from what I've noticed, but I think that's just because higher level hypers last longer. If you save up for a 7-10 hyper, you usually won't regain enough meter to get anywhere near that amount again, so you need to use a few smaller hypers to build up the meter so you can have enough saved to regain a larger amount of hypers in one go.

I agree that it's a good idea to try and hyper just as your meter's about to fill up, it's very handy to hyper and have a level 1 hyper pretty much ready to go in a pinch as soon as your first one's done.

According to this, hyper duration is the same regardless of level in AC/360 modes. I'll mess around with it today if I get some time!

EDIT: Watched my replay and took a stopwatch to it (skipped around). Lv1, Lv3, Lv6, Lv10 hypers all clocked in at around 17 seconds.

New Pork 2-ALL Rafute replay on Youcube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WohHvOgclPo

Two things of note.
Max 5 lives up top throughout most of the whole 1hr 3mins.
The first Pork 2-ALL on Youcube to feature an unbroken chain from start to finish.

& I'm still falling short of awo :|

Gonna be trying to copy these once I get home! Looks like lots of fun.

Been watching him do these live the past week, and it has been pretty interesting. Some good tricks I've been taking into my 360 Mode Laser runs, and Minamin is friendly and chats with people during breaks. He's been very close to obliterating his personal best lately, just had some really bad luck in his runs.

At first glance the cgi looks so basic that i almost stopped watching it after the first stage but then the gameplay starts to get intense. Impressive going.

Gameplay Audio Commentary - R Type (Arcade) - Completed 1 Life

Heya, this is my first try at gameplay audio commentary. I've wanted to do this for a while. Sometimes just putting up replay videos can be a little soulless, so I thought I'd try talking over one to make it a little more personal and to give people some insite to my gameplay approach. I was a bit nervous at first but I loosened up half way through. It's harder than I thought! ;)
