General youtube shmup thread.

When I see people who don't like shoot 'em ups...

I'm on the Sinistron one now. Best reviews ever. Doesn't say much, but still.

I try not to. My friends all just call them 'flying shooting games'. It sounds less gay.

Here's another guy's (AlphaNerd01) review of Raiden 3:

I haven't watched it yet, but it's probably horrible.

lol! I've seen someone referring to this board before, not youtube video though...

found it

http://www.qualtality.com/?page_id=39

a bit from the dodonpachi review:

"...This doesn’t really seem like a game you play so much as one you’re supposed to mechanically obsess over every step of the way. If you’re not one of those people who gets off on that (read: shmups.com retard), you’re probably better off just marvelling at some replays and leaving it at that; you’re not getting past stage 2 without serious practice..."

WTF :?:

Here's my shmups playlist on YouTube. I've mainly been adding to my SSFIIX playlist lately but the 80-something videos should keep you busy for a while.

After watching those 16-bit reviews those games in your videos look like the best things ever created. Even a bit of Giga Wing 2 in there!

I thought I was the only one who thought that it sounded gay. Can't we have a better name for this video game genre we all know and enjoy? Grin.

Shmup is a lovely written word but it makes my flesh crawl and burn when said aloud.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I'm starting to be convinced that people who claim to be retro gamers and own video equipment have never previously played a video game. Maybe they think ebooks are video games and hitting continue the most is how you win at any genre of anything. I dunno what's worse, the LonelyGirl15s or the wannabes with camcorders who leave auto-refresh on their video pages...

Sigh, I want my old review site back...

It sounds very gay indeed, and you'd think you'd get used to the word, right? Wrong! It sounds like: snuf. I would have preferred: sups, it's shorter and even though shmups is more accurate, it sounds less gay.
From here on we will refer to shoot 'em ups as sups. SUPS
All in favor?........... I was playing a sup the other day. See, it sounds better. But it sounds like subs. So it sounds very vage. But is that a bad thing? Certainly better than any gayness. I am not in favor to change the name of this site/forum, but do prefer the term sups. Any other ideas?
a seu, a sep, a shoup, a shup. I hate that "h" in there. That is the gay factor as well as the "m". It sounds like shmuck. A sp? Let's decide right here and now :D

Isn't that one just a bit too obvious?

I think these are all secretly by Rob and he's just making fun of us again

Very nice list, JoshF! :D Love the Contra-style spread weapon in Aldynes! Nice footage of G Vector as well!
