Someone suggested "Flash Clear," iirc, earlier on...not sure whether there's an "established" term for it, or whether "invincibility window" would cover it...I'm leaning towards having those two separate, though again I'm not sure exactly what term (if any) to put it under, heh heh.

I'd say, "Bullet Cancel."
"Just one more game..."

That might be closer (or perhaps even an alternate term) to the (I think) already-existing term "Bullet Eater," which refers to any weapon which can "cancel" bullets, rather than a full-screen clearing as referred to here.

Bullet-Clear?
Bullet Cancel, although I don't think that would apply to bombs,as it's kind of a given.

Bullet cancelling has more to do with clearing destroyable bullets with regular attacks, or by using a special attack to destroy normally indestructible bullets. The term I'd use for the effect when a boss/mid-boss/large enemy explodes and wipes the screen is probably Screen Wipe.

Yeah, I'd say bullet cancelling is more like when you pick up a weapon icon in Ibara rather than the other instances of clearing bullets in games.

Small note: I'm pretty sure that tate is a separate word meaning "vertically", eg tate no sen, a vertical line.

I know next to nothing about Japanese grammar, and since there's been a bit of debate on exactly what "tate" means in the past, I'm hesitant to add anything like this in before getting it confirmed by one or two others...

Quick bump to bring this to the mods' attention...I'm just about ready to put up the latest revision of the Glossary and open it up to discussion, and this thread's become a bit bloated in the meantime...if someone could please lock/delete this to clear out some space when you get the chance I'd appreciate it.

New thread coming soon...
