It might mean that what was displayed at AOU was the final version of the game, and GD-ROM production will be finished at the end of the month. Exzeal and Dynamite Deka as final NAOMI games, Triggerheart and Karous as final DC games.

Or it may mean that rumors about a GD-ROM production stop were unfounded.

Or it may mean that a petition by random internet people to Sega begging for GD-ROM production to continue worked

There was NEVER an official announcement that GDrom production was going to be stopped. It was a rumour, there was no tangible source to this.

Ask yourselves why would Sega kill a profitable hardware line (Naomi) when games are still being developed and sold in the arcade trade?

I wouldn't discount rumors. Naomi is popular but it cuts into new hardware Sega may release to the arcade, gently cutting developers off is one way to get them to pursue new hardware. Naomi GD-rom cabs are probably getting pretty old too. I seem to recall that these machines break down easily, are new GD-Rom cabs even made yet?

Has there been any news on Exzeal? It seems like this game was lost in the shuffle of Broken Thunder and Muchi Muchi Pork. Not to mention THE and Karous.

Thanks guys.

I do hate to say this but GD-Rom production may be done. Sega has put up preorders for Dynamite Deka 2 and it's Naomi cart-based, not GD-Rom. Damn. *-neo

Isn't Dynamite Deka 2 the same as Dynamite Cop? Didn't that used to be Model 3 (2?) based, or is this a new arcadization of the DC port?

The Naomi cabs are no where near as old as the Astro City's and Egrets that Japanese arcades have no problems using so it really shouldn't be an issue unless they deem anything thats not natively Jamma compatible as unpopular.

This was posted on 2ch stgup/joyful last month:

exzeal instruction strip

shows the ship types and hardware

I didn't like how in Trizeal he increased the Stag ship's side attack rate. Made it where you had to wiggle twice as fast to reach the power of the original XIISTAG. Also, the Stag ship wasn't suited to the enemy formulation, seemed kind of tacked on fan service.

Interesting... so he ditches anything resembling a Trizeal craft but throws in the 1-player side XII Stag ship? Also, a rensha-only ship is a weird choice (despite having the strongest main weapon).

It would seem that this game (as both are one?) is undergoing location tests on this nice weekend. It's in a news item on the front page of the Triangle Service Web site, which links to a page for information on the location test.

Look at the English subtitle for the "Shooting Proficiency Measurement." :D I thought that was cool.

Hopefully we can see some videos from the test. Exzeal is the shmup that I'm looking forward to this year; Lots of stuff about it simply seems really neat. Shooting Love 2007. (You knew I was going to say it.)

Thanks for the link to the instruction strip, oxtsu! I thought that I'd said that already, but I must've been typing a reply when Flash took my Web browser out, or something like that.

As for the Trizeal ship, maybe we'll press Left, Bomb, Charge x 2007 to unlock it.

Thank you so much! :D

We get to see more of the "push the boxes" level! I had to turn my monitor's brightness all the way, but I could make most of the details out. That looks like fun, and the following area with the rotating... "bullet turnstiles" seemed relatively interesting as well. The explosions of said turnstiles seem a bit odd, almost powdery in nature, and I hope that they do have some sort of hit flash.

I have to say again that I love the shimmering "school of fish"-type enemies seen in the beginning of the stage (although they were easier to see in the AOU 2007 video). Very nice variation on the typical "popcorn" enemy, of which I'd never seen before.

There's also a related indirect recording with some interesting music. I have to say that I like it; Kind of reminds me of what I was hearing in G Darius when I played it at my friend's house a week or so ago, although of course this isn't Zuntata at all. I like the style though.

Heh, that was my first thought. These look easier since they're not constantly firing, though.

All right! 8)

The tank segment still looks fun, and that "nice bomb" (?) scenario will probably be quite reminiscent of Every Extend, if it's what I think it is. (After watching the video below, I suppose not.)

I really like the way that some of the backgrounds have been upgraded; I didn't mind them before, but that "dodge the skyscrapers" scene looks really neat (unless it's separate from the previously seen, similar scene). I wonder if the movement of the stage/camera is scripted; In a way, it'd be good if it wasn't because then you couldn't simply memorize it... but it'd also be good if it was, because then all the runs through it would be equal and there wouldn't be a "chance easy path" occurrance. I'd probably prefer unscripted, though.

That "protect the planet from PHAs" segment looks like there is a steep cutoff at the point where the screen starts to become filled... I'll be happy to survive that far, but for the advanced players, the scores for that one will probably be give or take a small amount after a certain threshold.

In all, the "shmups skill test" looks almost like a personality evaluation for scroll shooting game players... the beginning and expert players would of course probably have neat circles of small or large size, while intermediate and advanced players would have interesting shapes of varying design. If the graph was included as arbitrary information in, say, a forum profile, then one could tell with a quick glance as to whether a person likely prefers original or manic, for example.

(It could also be used for things like STGT team balancing!) Actually, the test might present mostly old-school concepts. Still, I wonder what my graph would look like.

According to the Japanese site Mak-Jp.com, the latest game in the Shooting Love series by Triangle Service, Exzeal, is set to hit arcades in late July. Exzeal is running on the workhorse NAOMI hardware and is available for preorder at 186,900 yen. The game is a sequel to the NAOMI release, Trizeal, and promises to offer the same pure shooting experience as the original.

And now for the bad news:

The arcade game doesn't come on GD-Rom. That sounds like a confirmation of the "no more GD-Roms"-rumor. And thus the hopes for a DC port are diminishing.

I had just e-mailed them to change it from Sumups to Shmups. They replied: "thanks for the heads up" and it is corrected now, so fellow shmembers might not get your post anymore 8) .

Yep, I love the abstract name "Shmups skill test". An arcade release based on this concept is a really good idea too. Especially with all the "___ Training" games being such a hit in Japan at the moment, I hope Triangle Service finds success with this.

As long as it offers a wide variety of difficulty modes, not just catering to the elite players, it might also help expand the fan base of shmups to a wider audience, if ordinary folks curious about "training" games can walk up and try this arcade game and have fun with it. Then it could be a "gateway title" to other shmups for them. :)

Well, it appears that INH will be distributing the OST for Shooting Love 2007. It's set for release on Sept 13th. The CD will contain 32 tracks of music totalling 40 minutes and will contain some PC media in the form of encoded videos.

Check out the promo video file for the full track listing.
