I have released Dodonpachi Trainer v1.05. This is an update of the existing v1.03 trainer by Grego.
Compared to v1.03, the v1.05 patch does the following:
- Applies stage and loop select for credits beyond the 1st credit. (Original only worked for 1st credit).
- Allows you to reset the game (return to the trainer menu) by pressing 1P Start during the game over screen.
- Allows you to select "FREE PLAY" in the configuration / test menu. FREE PLAY replaces the 3 COIN 1 CREDIT option.
- Change display of "Stage" and "Loop" to start from 1 instead of 0.
- Default menu options are set to standard defaults (shot 0, bomb 3, max bonus 0).
- Cursor set to "EXIT" by default.

This is basically a rom hack, right?
How does one apply the ips patch to the normal rom files?
Also, once the rom is patched, is there anything that's stopping it from working in any other emulator that supports the Cave driver?
I'm very interested in Daifukkatsu, and other cv1000 games, if you plan on doing more.

Yes, it functions as a rom hack. You can use this online Javascript based patcher to patch the original roms:

Since it patches the rom code, it should work on any emulator.
Regarding the CV1000 games, it will require an Altera USB blaster to reprogram the code on a real PCB, but unfortunately I don't have the games to test with at the moment.

That's awesome alamone. I've always wanted a rom hack to allow "Free Play" on a real DDP pcb setup. Back in the "old days", one had to "coin it up" if you wanted to play it indeed.
Do you have any plans to do a rom hack for the CV-1000 pcbs of DDP-DFK Black Label & DDP-SDOJ as well?

I have posted a v1.06 on my website, it looks like the v1.05 patch was causing issues on real PCBs and also on MiSTer.
I've confirmed operation of v1.06 on MiSTer but I don't have a PCB to test v1.06 so I'll have to rely on reports from PCB owners.
The zip file now contains a .mra file that you can use with MiSTer.
Regarding the USB Blaster, any generic clone blaster will work, you don't have to buy the official branded ones. You can find them cheap on ebay / amazon (around $10).
If I make a working patch for DFK then I may work on the other CV1000 games as well.

I updated to v1.10. Here is a summary of the changes:
Various QOL improvements when practicing hibachi:
- "Shinu ga yoi" message is sped up if starting on 2-7.
- You can hold any button to fast forward ending text on first and second loops, and end credits.
- Using the 2P pause stage scroll feature now sets your shot and bomb to max (it used to reset to shot 0, bomb 3).
- Fix blank frame graphical bug when starting on 2-1.
- Fix bugs related to playing on 2P side.
