Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!

Post by ShamefurDispray »

Coming in Spring 2016: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arl2eL-ANeo

I'm excited. This game was actually my first 1cc and still my only Cave 1cc. I'm not crazy about lolis but I find Deathsmiles really fun.

Yeah, couldn't care less for this. It's certainly going to be their most profitable port though, so I see why they did it. But I really don't care for the game in the first place so I won't be picking it up.

I'll be picking it up, if only because it saves me the trouble of having to hook up my NA 360 to play since I lack the NTSC-J copy for 360

Yeah. I would buy:

Any DDP
the Yagawas
Futari
Galuda 2
Anything from their 68k/PGM hardware
and maybe Akai Katana or Progear

I would not buy Deathsmiles. Bummer.

Think they'll screw this one over with Steam DRM too?
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Ha, I was expecting DDP:Resurrection, but this wasn't out of the question. It's probably easy enough for me to clear unlike 99% of shmups.

Always loved Deathsmiles but I can see why some people hate it. I hope it does well because it is good for the pc shmup scene.

Just to balance out the negativity...

Don't currently own it, really enjoyed my time with it in MAME, can't wait to pick this up, hope it's a success and we get a DDP next.

DeathSmiles, huh? Not excited, but sure. Personally, I wanted DDP DaiFukkatsu + KetsuiPachi Arrange DLC (I'm not sure the DLC itself was ever localized).

Any sort of disappointment from me is that DS isn't a Cave title that's eluded US localization; I'm sure it's not hard to get a NA 360 copy of DS even now. I think the game itself is fine, even if I didn't play it too much via emulation. Maybe I'll give it another shot before this hits Steam.

I can say that DeathSmiles will be easy for new players to get into, at least gameplay-wise. The game difficulty is fairly low, the aesthetics difficulty is high. You either like shooting stuff as little witches, or you don't. But I'm not bothered by that myself. It's never really been an issue with me.

All the same, I'll consider getting this on Steam when Spring 2016 arrives.

Maybe they are hoping to cash in on this popular title to help fund other projects.

This is what I was thinking. DS selling well means they can port other titles.

Considering I can easily buy a physical, CD-including copy of this game from Amazon for 10€, eh, I'll pass.
I don't want to sound mean, and the decision is understandable, but I want them to release Jap-only games, not these. SDOJ, Ketsui, Ketsuipachi and the like.

Deathsmiles is one of those games I was always going to come back to but never did. I'm sure I'll buy it, not sure if I'll play it much.

Not everybody has an Xbox 360, so it's certainly a sensible decision to release this game.

Not everybody has a PC, so they may as well release these Cave games elsewhere like they did with DBCS. Unless Cave themselves decided not to. And I can't understand that.

Mostly every man and his dog has already played this years ago, is the reason for the apathy.

Not a fan of the art style so never picked up the 360 release. Just too creepy.

Shame they aren't going through the region locked 360 ports first. Even the region free JP releases seem a better bet than something already localised. Well hopefully it gives them enough of a return to port something else.

Considering that the 360 edition can be still found in nearly ever bargain bin this might be a rather tough sell...
Especially, since they didn't bother to include Tiara from the smartphone mode...why?!

I don't recall if it was Blackbird or Cave, in an interview, that said that the 2nd game would also be a vertical shooter and not Futari.

The upside though, is that this will probably sell well, and encourage CAVE to release more games on Steam. 3rd game on the way was confirmed.

No shit, I'd actually rather DS2. I always felt there was some real potential in that game that could easily better the first in the engagement factor, but I never found time to find out for sure. It's also fucking Christmas, which would make it at least a release with a relevant theme.

The Cave Gothic Collection album was a huge clue about this release. Next time we should pay more attention to their merchandising.

But they also released a SDOJ-themed iPhone game that everyone seems to love. So... Yeah.
